Wow this one really had me hooked. The twists are twisty. The romance is really intense and the sex scenes are really hot. There's a real sense of foreboding throughout as Mildred cleverly works to keep herself alive in a dangerous and deceptive environment. The poor girl is not physically strong and she doesn't have much power, but she's brave in her own way and determined to survive. She goes through some truly horrific abuse and betrayal. I liked how everything wrapped up in the end.

I really enjoyed how different this one felt! I wasn’t quite sure who to root for and the plot was amazing, I didn’t feel bored for a second! I would advise people to check trigger warnings, cause this is on the dark side but I wouldn’t say it a too too dark. The characters were deliciously morally gray and I had a fantastic time reading this! It felt like a quick read as well and I love that it’s a standalone! I would totally read more books set in this world.

Wanting to be totally fair, I don’t think that I am the right audience for this book. It is a darker love story than I really enjoy but I was not sure until finishing the book. I loved the fantasy world and the magic and even how the author plotted the story! The love story was just not for me. The writing is good and I do really enjoy that is felt strong as a standalone book. I would not read again but I do see how this is a story that some might really enjoy.
