It was fine, entertaining enough to keep reading, but nothing that really stood out.
I was expecting a slow burn with a strong plot, but it didn’t quite deliver on the slow burn. Sure, they take a while to admit their feelings, but the chemistry and smut start way before the 30% mark. THATS NOT SLOWBURN PEOPLE.

The plot had some solid moments, but parts felt a bit flat. I also wish romantasy books (especially the ones with fae) didn’t all follow the same worldbuilding formula. Some scenes reminded me of other stories, which took me out of it a bit. Still, the author did add her own spin in places, and I appreciated the twists I didn’t see coming.

The characters were mostly interesting, and I liked their dynamic, but I wanted a bit more depth from them. Overall, it was decent, and I’m curious to see what else the author has written.

The best thing about this book is the spice. It’s a 10/10 as I’ve come to expect from Ella Fields. I wanted to love the plot and the characters but just couldn’t get into it.

Eeuuhh... I don't know. I could never get sucked into it. The writing felt slightly disjointed to me, it kind of came together in the end. And the spice scenes after while felt weird. The biting of the nose thing really got me and some of her other descriptions where super cringe to me.

I usually really love a stand alone romantasy. Sometimes you don’t want a multitude of books but still want a solid story. That being said, I honestly felt like this could have been stretched into a duology. There were chapters that felt rushed and could have used more fleshing out. I would have liked a little more world building and a little more focus on some of the side characters and magic. I wanted more background on both the FMC and MMC as well as a little more history of the land itself and the twin goddesses. The story was good, full of angsty tension and plenty of heat. However Atakan was a little too mean for my liking. What started off as giving heavy Astarion vibes (white blonde hair, beautiful eyes, sassy/snarky mouth) slowly bled into some mean heart hurting actions. Mildred did give almost as good as she takes but I wanted him just a hair more cinnamon roll for her. Burn the world but protect your ladies heart my dude! Wasn’t a huge fan of the love triangle but it was handled well and was a needed part of the story. If you like enemies to lovers, kinda found family, some spicy spicy scenes and an engrossing quick read you’ll like this book. Looking forward to reading more of Ella Fields books.

Ooft this was a struggle to get through. I’m still not even sure what happened with the plot. I was constantly confused by the world, the characters and the story. Did it even have a story? I feel like I missed chapters at the end cause suddenly all was well? Not a fan.

I thought this was going to be a 5 ⭐️… and I’m disappointed that it’s not. But I also can’t look back and tell you why it isn’t. Like there was nothing I absolutely hated. I just think maybe I’m not used to standalone romantasy books and their pacing?
