I almost didnt want to finish this. MEGAN SHEPHERD YOU DO NOT FINISH A BOOK JUST LIKE THAT.

Way too many plot inconsistencies.
dark mysterious slow-paced

I'm not sure what put me off on this particular book. I will say it is much longer than necessary, especially for someone who is just recycling a classic and throwing in a bit of romance and completely modern language to make it an easy read. It's a bit harsh I guess which is probably because I just finished this and don't have that normal feeling of satisfaction that I get from finishing off a novel, but more relief that the store was finally over.

Retelling of the Island of Dr. Moreau, which I haven't read. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. Some nice writing at moments, but much felt fairly formulaic and obvious. No surprises, even having not read the source material.

I thought I would have liked this more based on the review I heard prior to my purchasing it. It was an interesting story and the end made it worthwhile for me. But it wasn't as "scary" and I had hoped it would be. :)

Very fascinating if not disturbing read, kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Not sure how I feel about it being book #1 in a series, I thought the ending was ok and I'm not sure a sequel is necessary.

Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

The love triangle seriously ruined it for me. Every five seconds, one of the underdeveloped (or in Montgomery's case annoying as hell) love interests had to be mentioned. *sigh*
It's twisted and creepy at times, but this is exactly the case where the romance overload ruins the whole atmosphere of the book because it's just too much focused on it. It had potential, and could've been much much better than it was! I couldn't connect to any of the characters, also Julie's father could've been way more complex then he ended up being.
Meh.
