My first manga and it was great
adventurous

CW: Animal Death

This was a great read! It's a sci-fi story taking place 200 years after the events of World War 3. Follows a young girl who is the last survivor in a world over-run by androids. I really liked the concept, it reminded me of Kurogane Communication, one of my favorite anime series. Plays with the idea of "Can robots feel emotion?" and other themes of the like. I enjoyed the characters and the art is fantastic.
I found some of the pacing a bit off with the exposition between chapters, but it's still good. Happy to have more Takaki manga translated.

I’m gonna chase down the rest of this series on Manga Plus - I rather enjoyed this! It’s a post apocalyptic adventure exploring the nature of AI, or Gears in this case. They are able to evolve and adapt to their needs and wants, but are constrained by their base program.

Chrome is given the choice to choose his base program, and of course, he chooses to protect Roue. He is extremely competent, but in many ways, still infantile. He’s still learning about his environment, and discovering there are different ways to succeed. Roue is trying to gently guide him to share her good morals, but of course there are many dangers and challenges along the way.

Update 10.2.23 — have caught up on this series only to figure out it’s been on hiatus and isn’t finished. But I still like it! It does explore some interesting questions about humanity. I’ve read through Chapter 39.

This was a really great first volume for this series. We start off following Roue and her robot uncle Zett. When something tragic happens, Roue finds a new ally in the robot Chrome who is willing to help her figure out what happened to Zett and restore him.

This was a really great introduction to this series. I feel like I learned enough to know what's going on, but there's still plenty of secrets to learn as the story progresses. I also really liked the artwork. Usually, fights are hard for me to follow in manga, but I was really surprised at how easy this volume was to follow.

Thanks so much NetGalley and Viz Media for this delightful arc!

5/5 stars

I loved this! The post apocalyptic ai takes over the world trope is definitely around a lot, but I really love what's been done with this series! Each character is unique and quirky, giving it the fun manga/anime vibes even though basically all humans are dead and things look a bit bleak. This was very entertaining and I can't wait to see where the rest of the series goes!

This series deserves all of the hype that it is getting. It is a post-apocalyptic nightmare where Roue may be the only human left, so her new android companion must protect her by any means. This book is just so intriguing, and I cannot wait to see where it goes!

BEAUTIFULLY DRAWN. Just so cool. The first chapter is unbelievable, just such a sweet examination of robot-hood, of personality, of free will. 🥺❤️ And the stakes are so high! The next four chapters are also perfectly laid out, it really feels like something special. I am glad Shonen Jump randomly dropped vol 1.
