The Mijo of 10 years ago would love this book - it’s very tempting to read about someone slipping into a world of fantasy and deciding that the life we live is simply not enough. I am not longer attracted to this idea. I simply want to live my ordinary life well and fill it with love.

I think I would have enjoyed this story more if I knew more about London. I missed a lot of Underground station references, I’m sure.

Neil Gaiman has been hit and miss for me. The first books of his that I happened to read, convinced me that all he writes is gold. A few books later I was doubting this conviction, because some stories and books were real disappointments for me. This however, I approached without real expectation. I knew it was Neil Gaiman. I have never set eyes on the TV show. So it was (kind of) a new try.
It did NOT disappoint. This book is very Neil Gaiman. Somehow everything was weird and strange but in its way all made sense. It was all I knew Neil Gaiman to be capable of. It's not the best book I ever read, it's not even my favourite Neil Gaiman book. But the story evolves very organically, bit by bit. And although some themes as well as some bits of the ending weren't quite as.. different, as I would have liked them, Neil Gaiman did undoubtedly a good job on this. It certainly managed to regain the trust in Neil Gaiman, that I had almost lost. A good book.

I like Neil Gaiman's writing, but this book was a bit too strange for me.

I have read The Sandman graphic novel series but this is my first book by Neil Gaiman. It was thoroughly enjoyable, a little bit trippy, and dark without being depressing. I find Gaiman's humor in his storytelling clever and surprising. Gaiman was also the narrator of the audio book and he did a fabulous job, really bringing the characters to life for me.

My biggest complaint is one scene in particular. Very minor spoiler here but the fight with the beast is SO short! I know that was not the main goal of the tale but I was disappointed after the build-up. I also wish Hunter had been explored a little more as a character.

The book that made me fall head over heels in love with Neil Gaiman's work. I have never been able to forget his characters in this one.
