Gaiman is wonderful at creating atmosphere in is stories. The whole time Richard is stumbling his way through London Below, I can really see how he creates the scene of all these pockets of time where nothing has changed for decades and the bustling nature of the markets are always fun as Richard comes across so many impossible creatures.

I enjoyed the character of Richard as the begrudging sidekick he is to Door through most of the book, and I really felt for him and his boring life and unfortunate luck.
adventurous mysterious

After he stops to help a mysterious girl he finds hurt on a London sidewalk, hapless Richard Mayhew is plunged into an adventure in London Below, the fantastic city that lies beneath the real London. I loved the marvelously realized setting and assured, witty writing, but I found the plot and particularly the people not so engaging; most of the characters felt pretty flat, and the plot didn't have a lot of zing to it.

I do not support Neil Gaiman.

One of my favourite urban fantasy stories. The London Below is such an interesting place. The Knight's Bridge and the Floating Market are two of my favourite scenes in fantasy.

Croup and Vandemar are creepy as hell, and are such a great version of the "Brains and Brawn Henchmen" trope.

Was excited to read this but it fell kind of flat for me.
