Gaiman's storytelling in Neverwhere still captivates me to this day. It was definitely a good idea to pick this book up and revisit Richard's (mis)adventures in London Below.

This book took me a while to get through. Neil Gaiman knows how to world build and take me through the action sequences of this story beautifully. However sometimes his effort to world build becomes overbearing and the plot sometimes takes a back seat.

If you ever like a human fish-out-of-water fantasy adventure in London then this is the book for you. Richard Mayhew is the typical human in a fantastical world who questions everything and receives no answers. The supporting characters to Richard are often times more interesting than Richard himself. And having read all the way through, the journey that Richard went on throughout the book feels a bit unfulfilling.

Ok so why a 4? Well for every cringeworthy Richard moments, there were plenty of awesome fight scenes, fleshed out backstories, and fantastical elements with characters (not Richard) who I cared deeply for. Fantasy from a human perspective almost takes the fantasy out of the story.

Overall good read.

Neil is so talented if you haven’t yet go and read the rest of his books

One of the best books I have ever read! The plot is like a warped Alice in wonderland for adults and the character design is masterful. I loved it!
