3.5 While the story doesn't achieve the depth of complexity that I might have hoped for (especially considering the events that this is spinning off from), it is a consistently entertaining start to a new series. And there are some outstanding moments of tension between the text and visuals--which strengthens the storytelling, along with the generally excellent art.

Catwoman is written really well, has an interesting plot, and the art in this volume is great and fits the catwoman aesthetic perfectly.

This graphic novel focuses on Catwoman in the aftermath of leaving Batman at the altar at their wedding. She is dealing with heartbreak along with returning to a new city for a reason that is at first unclear. She battles the family of a politician who is using her image for their own purposes. It was interesting to read a story that was just focused on Selina, but I felt that it could have been more engaging.

Joelle Jones' art is perfect for Catwoman.

This was an interesting graphic novel but I'm not sure that I 100% liked it. Like many comic book series, this says it's volume one but there is a ton of backstory and history to Catwoman. And there's not really any way to concisely go back and read all of that because, where do you start? For someone that's trying to get into a character like Catwoman, I don't know if this is a great place to start - despite the fact that it says it's volume one. The story was interesting and the art was good but there was nothing that really grabbed me and pulled me in. It was meh.
