"A gambler, a convict, a wayward son, a lost Grisha, a Suli girl who had become a killer, a boy from the Barrel who had become something worse."
I honestly did not expect to like this at all. I first heard about this book when my friend told me about it, and I must say, I doubted for a while if I was even going to read it. But I am so glad I decided to pick this up. This is such an amazing book, and even though it was slow and confusing in the beginning, it totally took me by surprise. Towards the end, I actually gasped from one of the twists, and books rarely get that reaction out of me.
And let's not forget about the characters in this book. I truly loved all of them very much, and me loving all the characters in a YA series very rarely happens. But these characters are just so well crafted, and their dynamics with the rest of the characters might just be the best thing I've ever read. Usually I don't like when all the characters seem to have a significant other meant for them, but in this book, I actually loved it. I found myself loving especially Nina/Matthias a lot more than I thought I would.
I have so much more I want to say about this book, but I'm just gonna end this here and tell you all to go read this book right now.

AMAZING! That is the simple way that I would discribe this book. I loved all the mc's and I cannot wait to read the next book in this duology.
One thing that really chocked me was that I didn't hate the romance, which almost never happens. It wasn't forced in any way and I really like that.
I would recommend this book to everyone, especially those who love fantasy or those who just want to get into the genre more!

honestly, i dont know why i gave it 3 stars. it was boring, took me MONTHS to finish it, didn't get attached to characters at all and it was so slow. i got lost in the amount of characters this book has that by the time i finished it i didn't know who was who. i got so hyped up for the heist only for it to be so forgettable and nothing special at all. the romance and chemistry that everyone is talking about? none; felt forced even. it is not a bad book, i have to give it that, like i get why someone might like it, but it just isn't it for me. i looove fantasy, i grew up with it and mainly read that genre, but this just wasn't my cup of tea i guess. i also set up super high expectations for it because of its popularity and i was just utterly disappointed in the end. i tried to read the second book and gave it a chance because people said it is "so much better" but i dnf it. i might give it a reread at some point in my life and then we'll see what i think, but for now, i don't like it.
i would probably give it like 2-2.5 stars, but i'll leave it at 3 because, like i said, it is not a bad book.
