Hilariously snarky and sassy train of thought essays about a Hollywood writer wanna-be growing up and living in NYC before breaking into the business.

I love Gary Janetti so much and wanted to like this book so much more than I did. I listened to it as an audiobook so I could hear his inflections. Some of the stories had funny lines and great details but they were also many times completely unfocused—like a meandering story about a European bike trip. The best moments are when he writes a letter to his younger self and his faux Oscar speech. These moments feel focused and hilarious but also with a point. The other stories feel sometimes like they’re striving to be David Sedaris but without the oddball sort of turns of events or the hyper specificity.

This book added no value to my life, and I'm very confused about the title. I think you really have to know (and like) the author to enjoy this kind of book.

The writing style was great, but wasn’t a fan of the choppiness. I didn’t feel like I understood Gary Janetti any better after reading it. I did, however, love his obsessive idealism— it normalized a lot of similar thoughts I have.

This was a big torturous to get through on audio. Not sure if it was how the author narrated it or if the story just didn’t click but I contemplated not finishing it several times.

I didn't know of this guy at all, and I found him really snotty and annoying in the beginning, but I began to enjoy the essays much more by the end. A fast and engaging read.
