Gargoyles Series Book #1
This is the second series I have picked up by this author. The first was her "The Others" series, which was erotic with a nice story/world build behind it.
In the start of this series, the erotic parts were strange, even for a world of "creatures". Those parts were just off putting for me. The world build was actually pretty good, I liked the take on gargoyles this author had. The characters in this one was bland and didn't really like the female lead role.
I liked the spin Warren has on gargoyles. It was possibly enough to have me want to pick up the next in the series to see if the next set of main characters are better. Yet there is just some of the book that puts the series to the bottom of my list to pick up.

Pretty decent read, happy the leading lady didn't spend the whole book being helpless
One more reason to love Christine Warren! There is mystery, fun and a guy trying to figure out this modern world as Ella and Kees figure out why he came back, how they fit together and how they can help save the world. A wonderful read and I look forward to more in the series!

I love gargoyles. I spent quite a bit of time babysitting in the mid- to late-nineties, and was introduced to the Gargoyles cartoon by a 4-year-old boy. I promptly fell in love with the show, the characters, and the romance of it all (and there is definitely romance in there, whether or not that 4-year-old boy agreed), and since then have devoured everything gargoyle that came my way. When I saw there was a gargoyle romance up for grabs, I jumped at the chance to read it, and while I wouldn’t say it was the best I’ve ever read, I wasn’t disappointed.
Ella Harrow is normal, darnit. Ella works for the Vancouver Museum of Art and History, giving tours, managing the gift shop, and attending donor parties to build the museum’s patronage. She’s normal. She is. Except for the part where she’s really not. Since she was a child, Ella has held something back, something that could destroy her and those around her. But when she is attacked outside the museum late at night, and saved by a monstrous statue come to life, all she can do is pelt the creature with everything she has at her disposal. Which promptly does absolutely nothing.
Kees is a Guardian, stuck in magical sleep for years, only to wake up not to a demon, but to a screaming woman and getting hit in the face with magic. It may not affect him much, but it’s certainly not what he wants to wake up to. Now he’s stuck with a woman who has no idea of who or what she is, and on the hunt for others who can help them. But without the magical Guild members as back-up, or to teach the lovely Ella, he doesn’t have much choice.

Three and a half stars. Original and good, but some of the errors in the ARC kept drawing me out of the story.
The beginning of the book kicks off with action fight scenes and a mystery but it still managed to be incredibly boring to me at the time. Maybe if I try this book again in the future it could be good.
Moderate: Sexual assault
Oh I loved and I hated this book. Full review later.
I'm @ 50% and I am determined to finish. I like the idea of gargoyles as the MC. I am always especially drawn to non-traditional supernatural beings. However, I was ready to quit early on because it's soooo slow paced... there's lots of angst & brooding but little forward movement. And Ella, REALLY?!?
I just got to the part where they *finally* found a warden so they can figure out what the heck is going on - 50% of the way into it! Good grief! Fingers crossed that this is the only one in the series that is this slow.
So, around 85%, there is some stuff about the spells/wards - this is by far my favorite part of the book. The rest I could do without.
Finally finished. I am curious about Fil but I don't know if it's enough to try book 2. I was really put off by the dynamic between Ella/Kees.

Eh not as good as I hoped it would be. Characters didn't have enough chemistry for my liking
this was not bad exactly just...idk a bit unsatisfying. most of it was well edited but the few typos were just inexplicable. it's like they just skipped a few pages in the middle of the book. but it beats some of the shudder inducing reads I've inflicted on myself.
I guess it started and stopped too much for me to really get into it. The pacing was mediocre, the chemistry was inconsistent for me, and the heroine was just a wee bit too perfectly powerful in some respects. The thing that does redeem it slightly is dastardly intrigue and world building that has me wanting to read the next book.
