How I Live Now

Meg Rosoff

3.45 AVERAGE

I am not sure whether or not this book is banned, but I do know that I found it in my school library in 8th grade and could not put it down. Now, I live for the unnatural, frankly a bit creepy and definitely abnormal plots of books of this genre, however I really wasn't expecting... well... this. Don't get me wrong, I loved the book it's just it was one of the first abnormal books I read and though I ate it up like a starved kitten I still think about it sometimes... six years later.

Mostly I only think about the line about her stepmom sucking her dads soul out of his you know what but that's beside the point.

Over all great book, would recommend but not to a twelve year old.

I would never of picked this book up if I'd known about the cousin thing before hand which would of been a shame as I really ended up enjoying it.

stopped listening at 25%

wasn’t the book’s fault, found it funny and interesting

but if you think my anxious panicky brain can read anything remotely related to the world ending atm, well.

3.5 Actually it didn’t bother me as much as one might think. I think she used it purposefully to be the juxtaposition between what is “shocking” and what is actually harrowing. It was well done, even if anorexia seemed an excuse for non-pregnancy... Another teen love story would not have worked. What I tended to find annoying was how I thought characters would not behave...e.g. I did not think Daisy would have left Piper with so little fanfare all on her own without a fight!

This book has an extremely unique language that pulled me into it on the first page.

This is a cool YA book about a group of cousins who try to survive on their own during WWIII. Although there's a little incest, the story is appropriate for kids. One of my junior boys loved it as much as I did.

Dang! Do you ever have a problem with a book afterward where you didn't especially like where the book went but in the end you can't stop thinking about it? It was so messed up where this book went and it tricked you about it. Every synopsis talks about how it's some girl in a war but that's not what it's about at all. Plus there were about a million cliche teen themes crammed into this thing. Apocalypse, eating disorders, evil stepmothers, telepathy, us vs. them, first sexual experiences... incest?!

3.5 Sterne

I read this book for the book bingo we're doing at school. It was a quick read to do with a war that takes place now. Daisy goes to England to stay we cousins she never met and then has to move houses with the youngest girl cousin, because the house is being used for soldiers. The rest of the book is about Piper and Dasiy's quest to get home.
