This is my second time reading the first Mitch Rapp novel, the first being closer to its initial publication. Though the suspense is still decidely there, the writing is not as polished as I remember. Flynn is a little too heavy on the adjectives, to the point of bogging down his storytelling rather than enhancing it. The characters aren't as well-rounded as they could be, and fall more into a blend of stereotypes and archetypes who are never really given a chance to be fully realized. Anna's progression is particulary painful. Yes, Rapp saved her from reliving a personal Hell. But that doesn't mean she's going to go all doe-eyed and latch onto him so profoundly in gratitude. It irks. A lot.

I would assume that this has everything one would want in a military-spy-action-drama story. It has a step by step, detailed look from all players involved, from the terrorists to the hostages to the heroes - and everything in between as politics, press, and multiple governments do battle for their cause.

For some reason, this type of story can always hold my attention, because I can’t resist a hardened bad ass alpha who takes charge and saves the world, and Mitch Rapp epitomizes that and more. This garnered extra points for there was an unexpected romance brewing in and amongst life threatening situations, and I’ll never say no to that. Ever.

So though this is the first book per publishing order, not chronological, I felt I had to read this before the others since this was how Mitch Rapp was introduced. I can’t wait to read his origin story (shout out to DoB in [b:American Assassin|7959473|American Assassin (Mitch Rapp, #1)|Vince Flynn|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1425389574s/7959473.jpg|11771611]!!) and I look forward to him saving the world again and again and again.

I love this series! I love Mitch Rapp! Can he please be a real person in real life? I would marry him in a heartbeat.

In case it wasn’t obvious, Transfer of Power is another wonderful work of the late Vince Flynn. How I didn’t know about these books sooner is a mystery and a tragedy in my mind. Mitch Rapp is a protagonist whose journey I will never want to stop following. He’s a badass CIA Assassin whose mission is simple. Take out terrorists wherever they are, be it foreign or domestic. He has no time or patience for political agendas. And his moral compass is very much in tune with mine. Every time he makes a decision, I get excited because if I were in his shoes, I would’ve done the same thing.

5 amazing stars for this book, and I firmly believe I will give the same rating to every book after.

This book was above and beyond. The first two books were not that exciting and I just read them to see if I wanted to drop the series. But after I picked up the third book I knew that it was going to be an interesting book. All of the action had me on the edge of my seat waiting for what was going to happen next. I loved seeing the action of how fast the Secret Service reacts when there is an emergency or a danger to the president. I felt like that was the coolest part.

3 and a half. I finally read a Vince Flynn book!! It was honestly like reading 24--I like the story, but there is way too much killing--honestly it was mostly violent at the beginning which was better than how much they kill on 24. Anyway . . . definitely a different kind of book for me.

First things first, I should have read this Mitch Rapp first. It's by far the best I've read so far so, if you're wavering about Mitch Rapp books take my advice and go for this one. That said, it does lose its way a little in the middle, and for all that it should have been non-stop excitement, I did get a little bored. Luckily for Mitch, I was in very long queues at a certain world famous theme park, and it made the time pass quite well. As with all of the Mitch Rapp books, there's a slow, steady build up to the end, but then it ends quite abruptly. Get used to it, because it happens with every one of his books! Still, I keep coming back for more, so there must be something about them that appeals.
