This is a perfect book the next time you are looking for a lighter romance that has zero spice (they have some sweet kisses, but it doesn’t go an ounce farther) and just a slight hint of magic.

Though I enjoyed the book, the banter didn’t flow as well as it does in other books I’ve read. I also feel that the characters didn’t have much depth, especially the MMC, we know very little about him for most of the book. Like I said it a good mindless read but not something I will think about much more.

3.5⭐️After submitting her paperwork for her dream teaching position, Catherine finds out that she simply “doesn’t exist.” In need of figuring out her missing identity, she gets the help of her building doorman Luca. This is the lighthearted, cozy book you’ll want for fall. The magic realism element was subtle but woven into the story perfectly. Plus, you can never go wrong with found family, opposites attract and a quirky cast of characters, and this combo fit perfectly here with the plot. I did find the writing itself repetitive at times and wanted a stronger romantic connection, but I thought the audiobook did a great job bringing the story to life!

This book was fine. I like Melissa Weisner's writing style and character building. But the premise of this book was ridiculous. It's pretty clear the author doesn't know any tenure-track professors because none of what transpired with the FMC's job would have happened.
Hiring committees for tenure track jobs painstakingly look for the right fit. Academic departments are not hiring someone else on full-time right before the start of the semester to teach classes if things fall through with paperwork. They'd easily get an adjunct or grad student to pick up the classes and would absolutely help sort out missing identity issues. And no admin is gonna accuse a Ph.D. of not writing their own dissertation. That's absolutely ludicrous given how many articles and conference papers an applicant would need to include on a CV, and hiring committees actually read that shit. And senior faculty wouldn't expect a new hire to write a bunch of papers on a deadline and expect first authorship. That kind of shit might happen with grad students, not with a colleague.
Clearly my dissatisfaction stems from knowing too much about academia. It made suspension of disbelief impossible. Non-academics might like this more.

While this was more general fiction than a contemporary romance, I really enjoyed Catherine’s self-discovery journey, Melissa Wiesner’s voice as an author, and the magical realism twist!

What a delightful, charming romance!
Catherine Lipton has her doctorate and has just procured a job as a tenure-track mathematics professor. She’s also moved into her first solo apartment in a building full of senior citizens. She likes how peaceful the evenings are.
