I think my main problem with this story is that I don’t feel the connection between Lore and Fallon. They spent 80% of the book away from each other and at odds. Both acted like brats and it was annoying. I’ve read fates mates stories before where the relationship felt believable, but this is lacking.

Dit was een prima boek. Lore is tantoe possessive en Fallon tantoe koppig. Mocht bij allebei af en toe wat minder.
Ben benieuwd hoe het volgende boek gaat en hoe Dante aan zijn einde komt ❤️.

Fallon got the ding dang brain cells needed

Took a long time to get going.

The main female character was a fair bit more annoying in this book.

The author used a few words that I don't think fit in the setting/world, like "creepy" "cruise director" and "play-by-play".

God the smut was awful! I laughed and/or cringed at some of the terms used. It didn't feel remotely realistic given the main female character's lack of experience.

I think the age difference was a bit gross. Sure they're
"mates"
but he's 680 years older than her. She's over 18 sure, but everything else about the age difference is gross.

Everyone's pupils were constantly dilating and retracting. Sounded a bit distracting when you're trying to have a conversation!

I'm so sick of sex scenes where the women has 10 orgasms back to back and they have sex like 6 times. And the man is so "big" the woman worries about it, then it's magically fine. I really think the book's sex scenes ruined it!

Gobsmacked, speechless and mind blown is a fair few words to describe me right now! I did not see that ending coming and I have so many questions .

I'd describe this second book as a weird patchwork because the main quest was not always super clear, so it was unequal in quality as well. Once I got into it, it was solidly easy to read and the twist and turns got me surprised.

However, I liked this book less than the first one. I had kinda predicted it because I hate mate stuff :( what was fun about book 1 for me was the multiple potential love interests thing.  I think that the author has made the mistake of making Lore too all-powerful, and it's boring – like, if he can read her thoughts, then why are they having so many miscommunications? He's also just too violent, untrustworthy and unpredictable for me. Overall, this relationship has Arbitrary All-Powerful Possessive King and his Damsel in Distress Energy. I find it a bit dangerous for younger audiences to romanticise his protectiveness and possessiveness to this extent and I'm really missing some badassness in the main character (think Jude from Cruel Prince which is also enemies to lovers - but the main character is the Shit).

I did really enjoy the sexual aspects of the book, which are progressive and address the topic of pain during sex and feeling undeserving in a way I enjoyed and found romantic. I still love that Lore can transform himself into smoke and do smoke-touching lol. I also love the chemistry between Fallon and her friends
