I'd describe this second book as a weird patchwork because the main quest was not always super clear, so it was unequal in quality as well. Once I got into it, it was solidly easy to read and the twist and turns got me surprised.

However, I liked this book less than the first one. I had kinda predicted it because I hate mate stuff :( what was fun about book 1 for me was the multiple potential love interests thing.  I think that the author has made the mistake of making Lore too all-powerful, and it's boring – like, if he can read her thoughts, then why are they having so many miscommunications? He's also just too violent, untrustworthy and unpredictable for me. Overall, this relationship has Arbitrary All-Powerful Possessive King and his Damsel in Distress Energy. I find it a bit dangerous for younger audiences to romanticise his protectiveness and possessiveness to this extent and I'm really missing some badassness in the main character (think Jude from Cruel Prince which is also enemies to lovers - but the main character is the Shit).

I did really enjoy the sexual aspects of the book, which are progressive and address the topic of pain during sex and feeling undeserving in a way I enjoyed and found romantic. I still love that Lore can transform himself into smoke and do smoke-touching lol. I also love the chemistry between Fallon and her friends

I can't get enough

This story is so crazy good that I can't get enough of it.

There are enemies and traitors everywhere. Everyone has an agenda, so even allies can stab you in the back if it furthers their cause.

The romance is sizzling too.

I'm ready to find out what happens next.

While I enjoyed the first book I LOVEDA this one! I literally only put it down to sleep. The slow burn in this was sloooww (just the way I like it) and sucked me in so quickly.

I loved being able to explore more of this world and see what it had to offer. The characters felt more fleshed out in this one and I found myself more attached than in the first book. In House of Beating Wings the story was the main thing that drew me in but most of the characters annoyed me. But in this one it was a mixture of the story and the characters that appealed to me. Except Fallon and Sybille. Fallon grew on me more on this book than she did in the first one, but I think the third book is where she will really start to shine. I don't think I'll ever like Sybille, she's too shallow an annoying.

I instantly picked up the third book and expect to burn through it in record time like I did with the first two.

I can’t wait to get my hands on this series for my shelf! All the pretty special editions and amazing book boxes! Why? This series is OUTstanding! The slow burn in this book made me grow talons and crawl up walls waiting on these two. Just freaking amazing!

What did I like? This is crazy amazing story telling! I need book three! I flove it! Lore is an easy character to love. I took my time reading this one but I imagine when book three comes out I will have to go back and read them both again. They are phenomenal!

Would I recommend or buy? Yes! I’m a big fan! I have to have these on my shelves! They are so insanely good. Anyone who loves a good book about Fae and other creatures, this is a great story! Five huge stars!

I received a complimentary copy to read and leave an honest opinion!

I almost DNF, but…

I almost DNF this book. In the first 100 pages or so, Fallon is horrible. She acts like a petulant immature child and I couldn’t take it. A couple times I put the book down and considered not finishing. But I pressed on and the story got so much better. Fallon starts to transform into a brave caring FMC, that I didn’t want to throttle. Just like the first book the world building and character development is amazing. I loved the crow language and Lore’s ability to read Fallon’s thoughts. Also this book has more spice than the last book! All in all it was great read!
