The last 30% of the book really saved this for me. Fallon is easily one of the most frustrating main characters I’ve ever encountered - sheltered, stubborn, ignorant at times. I really struggled until the last quarter of the book with her attitude and stupidity, to be honest.

I like Lorcan, but there’s something missing for me.

This book was really all about Fallon’s weaknesses and how she overcame them. I hate to admit it, but I agree with her self-criticisms - I am also not sure how she is deserving of being queen of anything. Despite all this, I do like how the author wrote action scenes. They didn’t drag or go to fast. The twist at the end was intriguing. I’ll definitely keep reading now that Fallon has outgrown her childishness.

If you read book one I hope you’re ready for more – of all the things but especially the spice. *Whistles* After the slow burn and banter from the first book I was ready to see where everything went. Well, where there’s smoke, there’s fire haha.

It’s been a little funny & exasperating to see Fallon try to outrun or change her destiny – especially where Lorcan is concerned. I’m glad to see that she hasn’t lost her stubborn streak. Her penchant for self-sacrifice and jumping in without thinking bites her in the butt enough times you’d think she would learn to be a little more cautious though.

This book does end on a cliffhanger and of course, me being me, I dove right into book three. It has been a while since I’ve truly binged a series, especially one that is 500ish pages for each book. I blew through these & I highly recommend checking them out – especially if you have KU.

i was never actually a fan of fallon's overall attitude with the first book. still am but i rated the first book a 5 stars because i genuinely enjoyed her character with lore the bird... but with this she made decisions that were so stupid and her character was actually starting to piss me off especially at the end

other than that, this was a solid book... i prolly won't read the next book though

4.5 stars — “I was merely living; I was not alive” Now thissss is what I’m talking about! It was giving my fav parts from acomaf (mind-flirting and enemies to lovers). Also that plot twist at the end wowza. Although Fallon is still kind of annoying, this book was much more entertaining throughout the whole thing compared to the first. I can’t wait for the next one to see what happens and what Lore does

A bit slow paced but I still loved characters and the development of Lore and Fallon's relationship.

THANK GOODNESS THIS PICKED UP RIGHT WHERE HOUSE OF BEATING WINGS LEFT OFF!!

We were chomping at the bit waiting for this book. So much happened right at the end of HOBW and then Olivia just CUT US OFF (we still love you girl)

We'll be honest, there were soooo many times in this that we hated and cursed Fallon. We so desperately wanted to just slap the stupid out of her. But of course, with great writing comes great character growth, so it didn't take too long for that to turn around and for us to root for her. Her sweet friends helped out alot, helping her see and understand things when she was TOO DUMB too stubborn to figure out for herself. Friendship plays such a huge role in this story and we love to see it.

Lore quickly became our favorite in this book. We liked him in HOBW but loved him in HOPH. Olivia was really able to expand on his character in this book and it was definitely worth the wait.

Remember that this is FANTASY so there is still alot of world building and learning to do. Still things that you won't understand and aren't meant to yet. The last 50 pages or so seems to continually be the best in each book and keeps you wanting more and more. Now we have to chomp at the bit for House of Striking Oaths!
