Enjoyable

I enjoyed this book- I love the story, love many of the characters (Pheebs!), and I like the setting.

There are only two things that I don't care for (and this applies to both this book and the first one).

1. The word choices and overall language are a bit too modern for me sometimes and don't reflect the setting. This is not a deal-breaker (neither is what I’ll talk about next).
2. This is a more significant issue: Our protagonist can sometimes be unlikeable- from her actions to her thoughts. She may appeal to younger readers than me (I’m 35). I understand that lack of life experience shapes her character, but, having gone through some things, I would expect even more character development than we've seen (there is *some* character development). Thankfully, she does have redeeming qualities: she’s loyal and she’s brave,

If you liked book 1, you will probably enjoy this. I will certainly be picking up book 3!
slow-paced

I originally gave this 5 starts right after I finished it, but after a week or so to think it over I do have some issues with it so I'm downgrading to 4 starts. The plot was really good and this book had more character development in it. I was enthralled the entire book and the end left me wishing I had the next one immediately. I would totally recommend the book for that alone.

The thing I wasn't happy with was how much of the miscommunication trope there was in this book. There was a good chunk of the book that was unnecessary had Lore just taken the time to explain things to Fallon. He also could have warned her about several other parts of the book that Fallon had to figure out for herself needlessly.

I'm going to read the next book and I really hope it doesn't end up like kingdom of the feared with the really weird left turn explanations for things. This is definitely a series with a lot of potential and I'm hoping that the third book doesn't disappoint.

------SPOILERS-------

I bed it will all be explained away with someone saying that it was because "Bronwen said so" that they didn't tell each other the whole truth to begin with. The more I think about it, the more that makes the most sense.

DID NOT FINISH: 26%

I don’t care if it’s going to be explained later, I HATE this kind of “love triangle” especially when the pair already knows they’re mates????
