Trigger warnings: violence, gun violence, pandemic, death.

4.5 stars.

There are few things that tick all the boxes for me as much as "archaeology in space", so obviously I loved the absolute crap out of the first book in this duology. As a result, I was somewhat nervous going in about how this one would play out. But the story hit the ground running and didn't let up, so I shouldn't have worried at all!

It wasn't QUITE as much fun as the first one, purely because there weren't the archaeological puzzles to be solved and there was less focus on Jules and Mia's relationship. But it was still a fast paced and action packed adventure, full of twists and turns and moments I didn't see coming, and I absolutely loved it.

Dec 27, 2018: Bravo ladies! Bra-fucking-vo! Now, excuse me for a minute, I have something in my eye ...

Jan 16, 2019: Now that I have had a chance to get my thoughts in order ... time for a real review!

I love duologies. I think more trilogies should actually be 2 books, and then they would avoid that "second book slump" they often have. This right here is a good example of a book 2 that grabs you from the start, which really should not be surprising considering where Unearthed left us.

If you don't quite remember all the details though, don't worry! Kaufman and Spooner considered that, and Undying starts with a brief recap of the characters, their situations, and where they all are,s o you don't have to try and squeeze in a re-read! Of course if you have the time and desire to do one, go for it. I just really appreciated the re-cap and think more books need something like that. Especially for those of us that read 100s of books a year.

I had a theory about the Undying while reading Unearthed, and I was kind of right, but kind of wrong too. I always appreciate when I am wrong about where a book is going. I like to keep guessing!

Mia and Jules are a great pair, and I really like watching them work together. Their interactions and conflicts are written in such a way that they are relateable and believable, even in a fictional world. The authors write everything so seamlessly that I was not able to figure out who wrote what parts. They have always worked well together and I look forward to any and all future projects they have together!

This review is intentionally vague, because I want to make sure I give nothing away. There are a couple surprises that I don't want to ruin for you!

More of a 3.5 I think. Don’t get me wrong, I love Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner but for some reason this didn’t really land with me (as much as I love Jules and I loved the first book). Maybe it was the predictability of it or the overall plot driven nature of it all, but wasn’t my favorite.

It wasn’t as spacey as I liked about the first book, but that was just the nature of the story. It was much more YA than I remember the first book being and the romance, though developed, still seemed oddly spontaneous and out of place at times. I missed the sci-fi, constant action of the first book and though I am satisfied with my reading experience and the ending, I’m a little disappointed with just HOW easy it all seemed (and yet frustrating beyond measure).

I’m glad I finally mustered the willpower to just pick up this book and finishing it after so long and I’m excited to see what’s next for Amie and Meg.

“Onward, if you dare.”

Such a great book! The danger wasn't as clear cut as the first one, but this book was still pretty intense! Loved how it all came together!

Lots of exciting moments but overall not as engaging as the first one.

Amie and Meagan are great at tying up loose ends and writing a satisfying ending. This book was definitely slower than the first one, because it was a little less fighting for survival and a little more politics, but there was just enough running for their lives to keep it interesting. I think they did a great job displaying how complex humanity is, showing the very worst and the very best of us, and how there's a little of both in everyone. All around a good, fun ya sci fi duology that's a pretty quick read if you're not distracted by fires at work and NaNoWriMo like I was

I may be in the minority but I think I enjoyed this one way more than I did the 1st one. After that cliff hanger at the end of Unearthed I didn't think it was possible but I was wrong.

While Unearthed was about exploration and adventure Undying was all about answers and survival. While I can see why some people were upset that the tone of this book did match up to that of the previous book I was all for it. I didn't care that there weren't puzzles to solve or tombs to explore (hence the original being marketed as Indiana Jones meets Tomb Raider...in space). I just wanted answers!!

This was a great conclusion for this duology and it makes me want to check out the previous trilogy these two authors did together.

Really enjoyed this book, the twists, turns, and chaos was fun to follow.
I did miss the puzzles as my mind worked to figure out the plan with nothing else really to focus on.

I cried.
