I really enjoyed this series, I need the other books to come out already. I am invested.
Second story of the Bree Taggert series by Melinda Leigh. I listened to this book (available through Kindle Unlimited with audio)… I am enjoying this series! Sheriff Taggert and former investigator Matt Flynn are investigating a possible murder at a campsite. However, there is no victim, no blood, and no shooter to confirm the allegations of a sole witness. This book has twists, tension, and relatable characters. I love how the two work together to solve crime(s).
4 Stars
This is the second book of the Bree Taggert series, and in this book Bree has already accepted to work as a homicide detective to help solve the case of a missing person who was supposedly shot but there was no victim found. I honestly think Melinda has an amazing way to write a book and keep you entertained through the book.
While investigating the crime scene the detective and former deputy Matt Flynn discover a body, the case takes a turn when the body is not the victim they were looking for in the first place. After finding a second victim dead in the same area days later the police finally know they are dealing with a serial killer and they need to find out fast who it is before someone else gets killed.
I really like the book, this series is getting better by the book and I am looking forward for the other books in the series.

Book #2 in the Bree Taggert series and let me tell y'all... it's a serious page turner!
The plot of this mystery/thriller is gripping and fast moving. I absolutely love Bree, the main character! She's brave,
loyal, understanding and despite EVERYTHING that is happening in her personal/family life and her new job as Sheriff - she does not let it affect or hinder her ability to work. I'm looking forward to the next books in the series and to see more development with Matt and maybe even his sister Katie.
Overall I gave See Her Die 4.5 ⭐️

This is a very straightforward, no bullshit drama police procedural.
It got quite intense by the end so I really enjoyed it. Even if the plot wasn't necessarily spectacular (it was pretty obvious who the killer was after 60% of the book), the characters and the perfectly paced narration made up for that.
I absolutely love how Bree changes throughout the entire length of the story, it's evident she grew a lot since the first book. Especially emotionally. It's nice to see her interacting with her family and also being a badass sheriff. I am beyond thrilled she eventually accepts Matt as more than a colleague.

See Her Die is book two in the Bree Taggart series. The narrative picks up where we left off in book one; Cross Her Heart. However, you can read this book as a standalone novel although I do recommend starting the series from the beginning.
Juggling life as the new sheriff and taking care of her niece and nephew along with her friend, Dana, Bree is struggling to find a work-life balance. The case she is working on is demanding and her deputies are not very co-operative.
Matt agrees to accept Bree's offer of working as a consultant, It's not full-time work but it acknowledges his expertise. It's an unexpected opportunity to work as an investigator again, although someone isn't too happy to have him around. The new arrangement means he can continue work with his K-9.
The primary focus between Bree and Matt is their working relationship, but it becomes clearer, the pair are developing feelings for each other. The subtlety of the connection means the case they are investigating isn't overshadowed. I expect that to change and am looking forward to seeing how the protagonists' attraction unfolds... two more books in the series are scheduled for release in 2021.
Overall, See Her Die is an engaging, suspenseful novel. If you're looking for an intense narrative with fascinating characters and intrigue, this is a book you need to read.

Bree finds out that being the new Sheriff is harder and more time consuming then she could have imagined. A call comes through about a shooting victim who is no where to be found at the camping ground. A search of the area leads to more confusion and two separate cases may possibly be connected. Missing college students, a homeless girl with a missing friends, her niece and nephew are struggling, Matt is waiting in the wings and Bree herself can't seem to even gets a good night's sleep. Can she catch the killer before more fall prey to him, or her? Can she juggle all the components of her new life successfully? Only time will tell in this exciting new Bree Taggert novel!
This was a great mystery!
This book was thoroughly engaging right from the start. The story was fast-paced, which I liked a lot. The crime takes place in the first chapter itself when Alyssa sees someone shoot her friend and calls the cops. The catch over here is that there's no dead body at the supposed crime scene, no blood, no signs of struggle, nothing to indicate that a violent shooting has taken place in the area. The only lead cops have with them is the word of a somewhat unreliable witness. Things get even more interesting when a couple of college students go missing and dead bodies start turning up in quick succession. It's up to the sheriff, Bree Taggert, and her companion Matt, to find out if these deaths and disappearances are related and if there is a serial killer on loose. There is a sense of excitement and thrill throughout this book which would keep the readers on the edge of their seats. Each new chapter brings up some new detail about the case, which sets up a perfect pace for the story. The author has not slacked anywhere and has done a clever job of giving just the right amount of clues while misdirecting the readers at the same time. This just kept me guessing till the very end about who was the culprit and how are all these deaths related to each other.
Bree was a great protagonist. She is a good leader, who keeps a firm hand on her team. She is dedicated, competent, intelligent, and very intuitive. She is struggling to handle the added responsibilities of her job while trying to take care of her family at the same time. Some aspects of this case are bringing back the memories of certain traumatic events in Bree's past. This, combined with the work pressure and worry for her family is taking a toll on Bree. I liked that she is not shown to be always in control (though that's how she likes to be) and perfect. I liked seeing her deal with her fears, this made her more real and relatable to me.
This story had a great set of supporting characters. I liked Matt, Todd, Detective Stella Dane, even Rogers. My complaint is that these characters were not given enough 'storytime', with the exception of Matt. I would have liked to see more of them, but I realize that giving extra focus to the side characters would have just taken away the focus from the main story.
The main reveal was unexpected and the ending, while thrilling, was not rushed. I liked the fact that the author took the trouble to bring all the loose ends to a genuine logical conclusion. So many crime stories have the loose ends tied up in a rush at the end. This did not happen here. I loved that proper attention was given to each person involved in the end.
All in all, I loved this book and would recommend this to everyone. I would be very interested to read future books related to Bree and Matt, and other books in general as well, from this author.
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for providing me eARC. The above words reflect my honest opinion of the book.
