It's a little unclear how cloning works.  The expectation seems to be that clones will all have access to wealth, although I don't think it's ever said explicitly that only the very wealthy can afford it.  Sometimes there seems to be an assumption by writers that anyone who lives long enough must eventually amass a fortune (contrary to how the real world seems to work).

Unfortunately, the main premise doesn't really hold up that well.   Some of the six don't seem to have done anything worse to their patron than just telling her no, which doesn't seem like it should be enough to get on some kind of hated enemies list.   And if these six are the only ones who are awake, it would seem like they should be the worst of the lot in terms of the wrongs they'd done her.   Maybe you can make a case for Wolfgang or Joanna, but not the others.

And if the point is to give her enemies hope and then take it away they would need to be awake for that.  Most of them would seem to go into cryosleep and then just wake up on earth (if everything had gone wrong and IAN returned them, as intended).  They'd be disappointed after, and down some cash, but it wouldn't be ongoing suffering.

Maybe the idea is supposed to be that these six has the worst combination of personalities to fly the ship together?   But again, I fail to see how some of them "deserved" to be on that ship in the first place.

Amazing! Fantastic! Fast-paced, character driven, murder mystery in space. SO much fun. But specifically fun I enjoy. It has clones, witty banter, characters with secrets in their past, surprisingly deep ethical discussions. It is a little chaotic and the mystery quickly fades into the background while the characters and their stories become the focus of the book. I wish we had more interactions between the characters themselves, but for me, it was enough to care for them by the end. Even though they do a lot of questionable things. XD It's probably the most problematic and violent found family I've encountered, but what can I do, I still adore this trope.

A perfectly-paced murder mystery on a spaceship full of clones. I was in the mood for a page-turner and this delivered. It’s the kind of mystery that’s technically possible for the reader to figure out on their own, but challenging enough that I didn’t get it entirely right. It’s also solid sci-fi, thoughtfully exploring themes around ethics and morality in a future where real death is no longer an issue for many people. Lafferty does a great job reimagining what character development might look like when the characters in question are more or less immortal. Finished it in 2 days and enjoyed every second.

I really loved the characters and the clone stuff in this mystery. It's an interesting premise with a great crew, and it made for perfect vacation reading. I think I would like it more if the story stretched a bit longer, because wen the big mystery bits are tied up I was still left wanting more.

This was a fun little sci-fi novel about a group of clones on a space mission who awaken to discover that their previous selves have been murdered, their ship’s been sabotaged, they're outside of communication range with Earth, and they don't remember the past twenty-five years. The best parts of this book were the characters trying to piece together their relationships to one another (they've basically just met but the murder victim versions of themselves had known each other for decades), and the world-building around clones and clone related laws.

I docked a star because there are some things surrounding one of the characters’ motivations that could have been explained better and I thought the way the author handled religion was kind of weird. Overall though I would recommend if you want a fun sci-fi adventure and don't mind some gory descriptions.
