The audio book version of this is brilliant. It’s the first time I’ve listened to an audio book so fast, I didn’t want to press pause and get on with every day life.
So moving and heart warming and I just fell in love with Marla.
Note: I did listen to it on 1.5x speed because I found the narrators reading a bit too slow for my liking.

Amazing

Toffee is an interesting piece focusing on themes of friendship and identity as well as domestic violence. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the way it was written, in poetry, although it was unique in many ways and somewhat enjoyable I found some aspects, such as character development were lacking slightly and the novel itself seemed to try a little too hard to relate to young readers by the continued use of drugs and alcohol without addressing this as an issue.

I loved this story. Allison and Marla, completely at odds with each other. A far fetched story, but a lovely one at that, sad in so many ways, a lot of truths surfaced throughout. How someone with dementia comes to be with a house guest-a victim of domestic/child abuse, an unlikely friendship, a really beautiful story written in verse. I found this a clever, intriguing and heart warming story.

Just not for me. I was expecting this to be written all in prose which threw me off and I found it difficult to read.
