There were some things I really liked about this book including the magic, Brigid's relationship with her daughter, and the side characters Finola and Ophelia.

What I enjoyed:

- A book that takes place on an island off the coast of Ireland? Sold! I loved the concept and premise. A witch that wakes up 100 years in the future with no memories? A lake with haunted creature? Loved it.

- The podcast was full of fun, witty banter. I always wanted more of it! Some parts made me chuckle.

- There were some truly beautiful and haunting images that will stay with me from this book. The author had some beautiful writing and did a great job of creating scenes that will stick with you.

What I didn't like as much:

- The plot meandered quite a bit, and there were periods in the middle that were hard to get through. Brigid's lack of memories seemed to make the story drag, and it was hard to feel connected to the characters. The plot picked up about 75% of the way through.

- This might just be me, but I thought some of the magical world-building was missing substance... Sometimes a new term, ability, or creature would pop up that I wasn't aware, and I maybe would have liked more explanation or background.

- I desperately wanted more plotline with Brigid's daughter Dove. I felt that this is what the whole story was about, and then we really only had a few short scenes with her. I would have LOVED more content there.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the author for an advanced review copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. I am posting my review here now and will post on my Bookstagram closer to the release date!

Really good book, sometimes the story lagged slightly but then would pick right back up. The love between the characters was a great addition to the story.

Amazing read! The dual timelines are seamlessly intertwined and make this story so engaging! I loved the characters and the complex relationships they develop along the way. Excellent setting descriptions and a nice pace make this book a must-read for anyone who enjoys a witchy thrill!

✨ Review ✨ The Lost Witch by Paige Crutcher; Narrated by Aoife McMahon

Brigid is a witch in the town of Evermore (Ireland) in 1922, and we jump quickly into her magical dealings with her goddess as well as Evermore's competing god Luc Knightly, both who are battling over access to the Lough (the lake of dreams). Suddenly Brigid is transported 100 years into the future and the town of Evermore is facing demon creatures invading the town constantly. She wakes up without her memories, but surrounded by her ancestors Ophelia and Finola, as well as Luc, but who's side is Luc really on?

This was a really delightful magical story with gods and goddesses, fairies and demon creatures, and witches from different centuries. The audio narration and accent were so much fun and had me hooked into this book (and the competing group of witches have an amazing creepy voice - LOVED them). The book mixed humor and fantasy and romance and family and friendship, and it was a great listen.

It did stretch on a little long in places and my mind wandered a little, but overall this was a delight of a book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: fantasy/magic in a real-ish place
Location: island / small town in Ireland
Reminds me of: Luc/Bridig were giving me Addie LaRue vibes in places, but definitely different
Pub Date: out now

Good read, it was enjoyable. I am glad I didn’t buy it though. The transition between 1922 and 2022 was abrupt and I think it hurt the storyline a bit. Overall it was a good and quick read.

The Lost Witch is a tale of love, loss, family, coven and fight for Evermore. Paige Crutcher created a magical realm that I could picture vividly with beautiful landscapes and scenery. I really enjoyed the first and last 20% of the book - but the middle 40% fell short for me. The third person narration really made it hard to connect to the characters at times as well as the extended memory loss.
All in all - solid, fun and quick read and I’m excited to see what the author comes up with next!

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
