I liked this book. It was an exciting read, almost action moviesque or comic book like. I looked at the other reviews, and agreed with some points. There were some continuity issues that I glossed over, just like the movies. While not a keeper, I would not mind reading some of the others in the series. Plus I gotta see how the close our the Garin and Roux characters. And of course to see if they continue the Witchblade similarities.

I really wanted to love this book/series but the dialogue was so painfully lame, I couldn't finish. It has a Tomb Raider sort-of feel to the premise but again, the writing was so so bad it was unreadable.

There's not much to say about this book. It's a good pulp adventure novel and I'll likely read more of them for fun!

First, I do want to say I would give this more of a 2.5 stars than just a 2 or 3 but at this time GoodReads here doesn't have that option.

This book came out back in 2006, and since than this the story of a female Indiana Jones with a little Joan de Arc sounded like it could be right up my ally. And as the book progressed I did see some of what I was looking for but felt it was over the top.

This story I feel starts out dry so dry that I was sad that I have been waiting 10+ years to get my hands on this book to read it and almost thought about marking this as a lost book. Not to the book credit and my friend who happen to own this told me to stick it out. Am I glad I did? I am not unhappy I did and it redeemed itself as a story about 56% through the book.

Besides the slow start there where many over the top moments like a bike crashes and it blows up, some of the fighting is also a little over the top with the hero jump. I did end up thinking for a few moments that I would read the second one if it crosses my path and I have the time as long as it is not as slow as this one. The one thing that does stop me is that this is a 50+ book series with Audio books making it move forward.

This a CLEAN book and would recommend it to people who just like that, there really is no romance so even guys or tomboys and just read a book and move on. There is talk about maybe someday they will have that but not today and I really enjoyed that in this book. And being so over the top like a Tom Cruse action or Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie the last part of the book was much better and help redeem just if it did that sooner.

Fast-paced action with an excellent heroine with smarts and sass, this book is pure fun to read. I accidentally picked up a book later in the series, and liked it, but now that I've read the first one, I'm excited to read more. Clever and intelligent mystery mixed with action scenes in a way that seems to flow effortlessly from one chapter to the next. I had some of the mystery figured out before the main character did, but I never, not once, was frustrated by her way of thinking through things like I have been in other mystery novels.

(oh, and I picked this one up at the library - sometimes the books I read the fastest are the ones I find there)

I wish I could give this book 3.5 stars because I have two problems with it:

One - the fight scenes are way too detailed for me. Not too graphic, just too technical with how she positions her feet, holds her hand and shoulders while striking, moves her head, repositions her feet, adapts a certain fighting style into her next block, repositions her head and feet at the same time, etc. I found myself getting lost and then skimming to the end of the fight scene to see how it all turned out (they win...a lot).

Two - the characters. I didn't feel like any of them were real, including the bad guy, but I'm really hoping the main three characters get fleshed out more in the next book. Which I will be reading because of what I DID like about this book: the research they do trying to solve a centuries-old mystery and all the hidden-in-history clues that come together to form a cohesive and believable picture of the truth. I don't know anywhere near enough about the covered time periods to know if any names (beyond Joan of Arc) were real people, but it sure felt real. The historical clues made sense and were uncovered quickly (archaelogy message boards, phone calls to colleagues, etc.), so no hours hunkered over old texts to slow the super-fast pacing of this novel down. If the next book in the series has more of the same along with further character development, it just might get five stars.

Well I will say it seemed this book was no stop action from about page 6 until the end. Annja Creed managed to stay constantly on the run or fighting someone nearly the full duration of the story. And the author did a good job of keeping the reader in the dark about the main mystery of the story: the significance of a single coin. However, I couldn't help but feel the story was a little trite, the reasons behind the men wanting the coin a little exaggerated too far, Annja a little too idealized. That being said I am going to give the second book a chance. I hope it doesn't destroy my suspension of disbelief as this one did, and that I am able to enjoy it a little more.
