Back in Willow Asterβs Landmark Mountain and I am so excited!
What I loved
What I loved
This book is a gem. The second book in the series cranks up the sizzle factor, the happiness, and the gut wrenching sadness all in one fabulous novel! Sofie and Theo were childhood sweethearts and best friends and knew they were going to spend the rest of their lives together, until Sofie disappeared eight years ago, leaving behind a note saying that the small town of Landmark wasn't enough for her. Leaving a heartbroken Theo, Sofie makes a new life in Texas far away from Landmark and those she loves. So when Sofie's father dies, she decides to come back to Landmark and take over the ranch he left her, but her heart has never moved on from Theo and she knows that she will have to work hard to prove to him that she will never run away again and is there to stay. Will Theo be able to overcome the hurt that Sofie inflicted, or the distrust when she says she is going to be in Landmark forever? With her memories threatening to drown her in fear, Sofie must learn to trust Theo with her secrets and hope he understands and is willing to forgive her.
I love this series, it is so well written. The characters are believable and relatable and really draw you in, making you root for their HEA!

I read this as a Buddy Read so I am posting my thoughts from there.
Up to Chapter 6
So based on the warnings at the start of the book I think we might have a DV case. I'm just not sure how.
Up to Chapter 26
Its sweet how they all wanted them to get back together. Somtimes people really do suit each other.
Her life has been so hard. Its surprising to me how well she did hide this for nobody to catch on to the abuse.
Finished!
Really loved this in the end.
I was a little worried we were going to have some miscommunication and we sort of did but it wasn't terrible. It was mild miscommunication and sort of understandable. She cleared it up as soon as she could.
I'm not one for second chance romances but I did enjoy this.

I really liked this, second chance romances are always a hit with me. Sofie and Theo were such goals and I loved watching them work everything out. I loved that there wasn't a third act breakup and that the issues were easily solved. Seeing how Theo loved Sofie and how all in he was after she came clean really pulled on my heartstrings. Such a nice love story.
Moderate: Domestic abuse, Death of parent
*sigh
He went from still holding a grudge at her for leaving him, finding out her dad abused her, back to being head over heels in love with her in the blink of an eye. The build-up to them becoming a couple again was none existent, and there was nothing happening to form or strengthen the emotional connection between them it was all sex focused. They needed to have some heartfelt and meaningful conversations and to address or try to fix the impact their separation had on them both, but they didn't, and any conversations they did have lacked emotional depth. The fact they didn't face the glaring trust issues Theo has from Sofie leaving the way she did and she didn't deal with the trauma of her past either, the foundation of this second chance romance isn't a solid one so these two wouldn't be a book couple to stand the test of time in my opinion.
The story itself had the same issues for me that book one did. There wasn't really a plotline, and what was there was surface level at best. Again this book felt like what I would usually see being used as filler content in other books but it made up the bulk of the story, it also used the he slept around whilst the FMC waited thing and I can't stand that, maybe had they only been separated a year but to have Sofie go 8 years without trying to move on whilst Theo did just feels gross to me and left me with an overall feeling of imbalance between them when it came to the romance. This is my second book by this author, and unfortunately, it has had the same impact on me book one did... do I give book 3 a try to see if my enjoyment improves, or do I call it quits here and accept that perhaps this authors writing style just isn't for me? π€·ββοΈ

I liked this book more than the first one of the series even though some parts of the second half were just meh. Sofie and Theo's second chance was hard won and their happy ending was quite lovely.
