The book started off really well. It's easy to get into the story and get to know all the characters. The romance is cute, and honestly, it's the only thing that keeps the story going (which isn't really my thing).

Spoiler alert for the next part of the review

- The king suddenly knows everything about Pae and confesses that a friend of his told him everything (which friend??).
- Pae wasn't that shocked when she found out that it was Kai who killed her father.
- The resistance feels a bit off; I can't really trust them.

“The sight of her in jet black is enough to make me colorblind, make me see nothing and no one but her.”

WORTH THE HYPE!

Heard so many mixed reviews on this and decided to give it ago for myself, boy did it not disappoint.

Powerless has a great magic system, a story that grips you, a fmc worth fighting for and a swoon worthy mmc with great banter.
Absolutely hanging for book two!

DNF at 19%.. a record! I thought it started off strong but the longer it went the more it starting reading as a poorly written fanfiction. the choice of wording in this book is.. mediocre. a handful of characters being described as nothing more than dark-skinned or having a dark complexion. (really? is there nothing else that defines them?) dialogue is terribly awkward. did anyone even proofread this? i counted 3 grammatical errors a mere 100 pages in. i truly do not understand the high ratings. i really did expect more for the positive reviews this book gets. what a shame
