This book was fantastic. I am not usually a fan of trials/competition books as I feel they are overdone however this book is an exception to the rule as it was unique in how it was set up and the POV changes enhanced the understanding of the characters. Also, while the spice is next to none, the author did great at still developing tension between the two main characters. It was a win for me and can’t wait for the next one.

I’m sad! I was really expecting this to be a 5 star read but honestly, I can’t complain considering I was able to finish the book. I could really see the familiar aspects of The Hunger Games within it and it just didn’t feel original enough for me! HOWEVER, I did enjoy the chemistry between Kai and Pae! It was good enough to have some memorable moments! I do feel as though it was a read for younger age group and expected something a little more on the spicy side going into it! Idk just would’ve loved to build the romantic relationship or something to make it less repetitive. I can understand that the story is still going to be built upon so I don’t have any grudges against the plot of book 1 and honestly I’ll probably read book 2 after the improvement of the story line towards the 70% mark of things! But yeah, for now 3 star read! Hopefully it’ll get better for the next book as it has a lot of buildable aspects :)

read this if you liked fourth wing because i LOVED fourth wing and got into a book slump because of it and none of the books were appealing but this book!!!! it gave be all the feels and felt as if i was right there with the characters. the world building isn't complicated to understand and so easy to follow through.
and Kai Azer! the man he is, the perfect morally grey mmc with the 'i hate everyone but you' attitude

First of all, this cover is soooo pretty, I can't get over it. However, the font in my copy is extremely small which is just infuriating. A lot of reviewers say that it's like The Hunger Games, personally I think it's more of a combination of The Hunger Games x Red Queen x The Selection, which probably doesn't make sense if you haven't read all of those books but it does for me. I really liked this book, which I wasn't expecting at all. It didn't feel repetitive or anything and it felt different enough from other books to be its own entity...
