Charming, spooky, read great for fall! An easy to read mystery that that's not too dark or creepy.

I'm still trying to parse through my feelings on this. I enjoyed it for the most part, there were just some things that I personally didn't enjoy as much. I thought the audio narrator did a pretty good job with it, I just wish they were able to make the voices more distinct since there were so many and some characters sounded really similar to one another so it was hard to tell them apart. It was an interesting take on the twelve dancing princesses and that idea was what drew me to it. It was more on the psychological horror side with some gore here and there. The writing was really nice and I enjoyed the worldbuilding as well. The vibes were definitely there in this one. It's a pretty good option if you're looking for some YA horror. I liked our main character, Annaleigh, and the other characters were pretty solid as well, there were just so many that sometimes it was hard to keep people straight. The dynamics between the sisters was interesting and I wish we got more of that. The romance was alright, i think it was solid and made sense within the story. I wasn't the biggest fan of the ending honestly.
SPOILER
I guessed the stepmother pretty early on but the whole making a deal with a trickster spirit and the trickster spirit got like the goddess of nightmares and madness involved too, it just felt like a little too much and a little convoluted to me. I think it would have worked just as well if the trickster and goddess weren't involved and it was all the stepmother. I get that the goddess made everyone doubt reality and in turn we as the reader had to parse out what was real and whatnot, I just think it would have been better if the stepmother was more involved in that and was a more active participant in what was going on. I also think it would have been nice to see more of the father being a shitty person and make him more of an antagonist than he was. I just felt he could have been fleshed out a bit more and made a bit more of a stronger character.
Overall, this was a solid read and I'm glad I finally got around to it since it's been on my tbr for a while. I enjoyed this one enough so I am willing to continue on with the series.
