This will likely be my book of the year. The world building and character development in this book were top notch. I fell in love with the characters. I laughed and cried with them. This is truly one of the best books I have ever read.

". . . We were either going to kill eachother or fuck each other . . ."[pg 336,Kindle]

This has been on my TBR since its release on 6/4/24. When "Brimstone", the 2nd Book in the series was announced to be released with an exclusive hardback edition w/ sprayed edges, I wanted to read it aswell. After I found out Callie Hart's 2025 book tour tickets comes w/ an exclusive hardback edition w/ sprayed edges of the 1st book, I immediately bought tickets! I wanted to read book one before the event on 8/22/25 & before book 2 releases 11/18/25. Since my local Romantasy book club chose this as their August pick for 8/24/25, I started right away. I listened via Audible, I didn't care for the female narrator let alone the FMC, but the male narrator Anthony Palmini did a great job, he kinda sounded like Nathan Fillion! With the fast-pacing, sarcastic humor & witty banter, I thought I'd love it, but I had a hard time getting into it; there wasn't much going on with little to no plot. In most romantasy stories, there is world building with some kind of introduction/base line to the magic, bloodlines, history etc but in this one, I had more questions than answers. The main focus was Saeris aka "Little Osha", a human and her attraction to the Fae Kingfisher aka "Fisher". The sexual tension, banter btwn the two MCs &🌢🌢🌢🌢 πŸ”₯ πŸ₯΅ was the only thing that kept me reading. I wanted to like it as much as other readers, but I didn't, so I generously give it 3.5🌟
