A rather plotless, self indulgent, psudo-spiritual novel from Coelho. Avoid this and read his early books again instead!

TLDR: the main character sets out on a journey to find his wife but ends up finding himself.
The Zahir, was a slow-paced book that was written in the first person narrative about a journey the main character goes on to find his wife "The Zahir". I think that since it was in the first person perspective, it was hard for me to understand who was speaking when in some chapters and had to piece that together. Along with trying to follow the timeline since there were points when the book kept jumping back and forth, from present to past.
I wasn't expecting the book to be more on the "finding myself" troupe but more of a mystery that the main character had to figure out. Overall, it was an easy read but not easily comprehendible to where the main character had a lot of questioning about their life and wife (didn't mean to rhyme).

This book was pretty slow in comparison to the others I've read by Coelho. I really enjoyed the message of the book and I'm happy with the ending.
This was a tougher read for me - I did a lot of pausing to consider what I'd just read, what it meant, and what I thought about it. I didn't really respect or like any of the book's characters, but I did appreciate their journeys through the idea of love - love as commercialism sells it, love as we think we want others to give it, and love as it should be: freeing rather than controlling, broadening and empowering rather than constricting. What I get from this book (and from other real-life couples) is a depiction of the journey a couple goes through in a marriage - passion, disillusionment, boredom, and the rather desperate feeling that there's something or someone else "out there" that can fix the way you feel, but the answer is rather in changing any attitudes of complacency toward your own life and the lives of others.
Het is een prima verhaal en met vlagen mooi en bijzonder geschreven, maar ik kan de hoofdpersoon (dus waarschijnlijk Paulo zelf) en zijn zweverig egocentrisme echt niet uitstaan
Don't remember. What happened here? A woman something. Don't remember, don't care. A woman on a quest? Searching for energy? Well she's searching for something. That's what I know. Or maybe i'm wrong. But like I said... Don't remember, don't care.
And I will never ever ever read this book again.
Ever.

Well, finally! Finished!
I still don't know how I feel about this book. There were parts I liked, parts that bore me out, parts I didn't understand, & parts I didn't enjoy.
Maybe there was something wrong with the connection between the book & me. It didn't reach out to me the way most books do.
But well, it was a book, a story, & I enjoyed my reading time.

Damn, this have been a mediocre year for me.
I rarely read literature fiction but I do like them. This is obviously not one of them. The writing style is simply not for me. It bored me and the story itself was not interesting. I only read this for a reading challenge so that may have contributed to my dislikes.

Another one I couldn't read.
I decided to read Paulo Coelho's books, because I really liked the first ones I read.
Veronika decides to die, Adultery, The Devil and Miss. Prym, The Alchemist... Those were 4 books that I enjoyed reading, which held me captive and had a very pleasant reading.
But the rest are being so doughy! The themes are very repetitive, the characters are so boring!! I quit. I will stop here with Paulo Coelho's books.
