Enjoyable as always but this read more like a filler book and less like a stand-alone. It almost felt like this was the middle of a story that had been ripped out of a bigger book.

I got this book as soon as it came out, but at the same time I battled with myself because I wanted to read it but I also didn't want to be done with it so quickly.
Now that I finally finished it, I can draw that breath that I've been wanting to draw for ages. Wow.
I read several reviews before and I can see why people would consider the book to be less than the norm for Kenyon, but I thought that it served its purpose beautifully. Even though this series can be read as a stand alone, the fact that it's so connected with the Dark-Hunter universe and the general plots that follow that series, I would not recommend one to be read without the other. Why? Chronicles of Nick gives a lot of answers, and this is also the role of this book. It gives answers.
Even though the abundance of information might have been too much for some, and even at times confusing, I could not be more happy to have it. I've been wondering for so long about Caleb, Xev, Jaden and Jared and now that I've got a glimpse into their pasts I can only say that I understand more but also that my curiosity is piqued. (I want these 4 to have books of their own in the Dark-Hunter series) And in a way it makes sense to enlarge on these side characters because at the end of the day, they are going to have extremely important roles in Nick's life. Sure, Nick is the protagonist hands down, but he couldn't accomplish anything without the help of Nekoda, Caleb or more recently Xev.
I am very curious about how the whole Ambrose is not the one to destroy the world will play out. Though I can certainly understand how it's come about, (they haven't played with fate for 7 books for nothing, something is bound to change) it's extremely strange to see that Nick will have children in the future and that his son is an evil son of a bitch Malachai. The only other thing that's weirder than that is his son's mother. Laguerre? My jaw literally dropped. But somehow, I am sensing that there may be more to it. Maybe she stole his son as a child and poisoned him with hate? I'm thinking of all other possibilities besides Nick actually being with Laguerre, because we definitely saw his vision of himself and Nekoda, and their dedication to one another, so that is definitely not possible. More than that, Charity, his daughter, is definitely Nekoda's daughter, because when they explain who his usumgallu are (including Laguerre,) Charity does not say anything about her, and does not even react at her name. So one of the big questions is how did Laguerre get Cyprian?
Another very interesting issue is that of Simi's children and their mysterious father. Who did Kody want to protect from Nick and from everyone else? It's very interesting because Nick thought that Lucien looked familiar, while Lucy himself mentioned that his and Charity's fathers had fought together.

All in all, even though Kenyon answered a lot of question, she left us hanging with even bigger ones unanswered.

So good!! It's been a while since I read the last book so I was worried I would forget things but this book did an awesome job at recapping what's going on with out actually saying what's going on.. if that makes sense.

I'm not going to write a full review right now because the book just came out today and I really don't want to give anything away. I will say that it kind of started out a little slowly. It picks up pretty fast and a lot of things happen that I totally did not see coming. I was constantly like "what the f*#&!" Oh and Jaden was in it!!! I have been obsessed with him for awhile now and I finally got to learn a lot about him! I can't even explain how excited I was by that. That made the whole freaking book for me.

And that ending!!! ahhh. Im talking like the last 5 sentences of the book. Blew my mind! I can't believe I have to wait for the next book! Well done Sherrilyn Kenyon!

Nick is trying to change his destiny. He doesn’t want to be the one to end the world and now that someone is draining all his powers he might just get his wish.

Book 7! Half way though the series!

I love how Kenyon keeps evolving her characters and expanding this world. She has so much love for her characters and it really shows in all her books.

She gave Bubba, Caleb, and Xev such a rich backstory. We learned more about Caleb and Xev’s family. We got to see the brother interact with their father. They have such a complex and painful past. There were so many betrayals and misunderstandings it shed a new light on Xev’s abandonment issues.

We also learned more about Bubba and his family. Now as a human Bubba has been able to fight along side Nick in some battles as well as help out with zombie issues. While we met Bubba’s mom in past books, this time we met his father.

While the series is about Nick, this book really shined on the supporting cast. We have seen so many of them grow over the two years in the story. I have to really give it up to Kenyon, for believing that they can carry the majority of this book.

As far as the story goes, I am so happy to see us starting to break away from Nick being the ultimate bad. The story is becoming a lot more complex.

I give this book an A-.

Started the first book and kept reading till I finished Instinct!! CANT WAIT FOR THIS BOOK TO COME OUT!!! The tension is really killing me!

Kenyon sure likes to throw stuff at us that if your like me and listened to the audio book, have to pay very close attention to or else you miss a lot, and can’t keep characters straight. But over all this was a great installment that I binged in mostly a day. Defiantly missed some details this go around but I’m already planning a reread once I finish book 8.

The seventh novel in the Chronicles of Nick. In this novel Nick learns a little bit more about himself. Knowing that he needs to stop the end of the world from happening, he’s transported into the future to see what the outcome of his actions are. Now possessing the Eye of Ananke this leads to more trouble. This novel was fast-paced, and action-packed. The writing wasn’t anything special, and the plot developed rather slowly. It felt like nothing really happened before the novel was over. Her characters were just pawns that she moved around because they didn’t develop in this novel, most of the time the characters came off cocky and angsty. It felt like Keyon was going to bring in a plot, but then dropped it; maybe it come back in the next novel, since there is definitely another one. This series is a complete guilty pleasure, it’s not the best, but you find yourself always coming back.

I really need like a flow chart for all the characters in this universe every time I read a new book. Kind of a slow beginning but picks up about halfway through. We actually got a clue as to wtf is going on in the epilogue though it also brings up more questions. I also think Sherri needs to explain better how all these beings fit into a hierarchy of power. She played up Acheron and Savitar too well for decades for me to easily swallow beings with the power to hide from them easily. It could be just me though.

Wonderful book, full of revelations, events and cliffhangers.
Mild spoilers ahead but nothing major.

There are lots of parts I love, but the best to me are definitely Monakribos story, the Caleb-Lilliana and Xev-Myone moments and the whole Caleb-Xev-Jaden interaction. I wanted to hug them all, they really clenched my heart.
And a certain part regarding a little trip for Xev and Nick was amazing. I loved every line.

We finally have some answers to some of the big questions and of course we have new questions! The big one naturally regards a certain character whose name starts with C and ends with N. I can't wait to see more of him.

All in all, it certainly feels like a mid-series novel: it resetted lot of things, giving answers and starting everything over again, setting the stage for the next half of the series.
The reason this book has 4 stars is because I'm very disappointed in something that happened early in chapter 1. There was a wonderful bonding moment between two major characters that was treated in a way I didn't like at all: it was told and not shown. Worse, it was told as already happened in an offscreen moment and the characters were dealing with the aftermath.
We got looooots of lines regarding Kyrian's past (again) but when it came to that scene we just were told what happened in what? A paragraph maybe? And I feel a bit cheated because it really could have been an awesome moment, full of emotions, feelings, even confusion. Told that way it just left me cold. Like "oh... ok. That happened. Nice. Let's go on". Not the reaction I wanted to feel for a scene like that.
I'm not a fan of offscreen moments and I notice our author uses them from time to time. I honestly don't like it one bit. For example we were never shown how Nick learnt that Nashira lived in the Grimoire, what they talked about, how she explained it. We were just told Nick knew and that was that.
The only thing I can think about is that there are still lots of books to go, so I hope that maybe some of the offscreen moments will be shown as flashbacks or something like that.
A girl can hope!

And now the long wait for the next CoN book begins...

So many plot twists, and holes, and characters you thought you knew connecting to other characters in a weird way and not even bothering to explain how... after this book, I need a timeline and a family tree. How is literally everyone related and how did I not know before this book?
