Long review ahead - Sorry.

This installment of CON left me feeling like I missed something, like I missed a book in the series. I didn't, I checked, several times. I've read all the books in this series and the adult series as well so I'm familiar with the characters and the storylines, but if you haven't read all the book in all the series you might be even more confused than I am. This particular installment left me feeling like I needed to go back and reread all the books again from the beginning so I'd understand what just happened. I didn't like that feeling.

Since we are dealing with some time travel throughout the series, there are a lot of characters coming and going, and this book had a ton of characters to keep track of. I need a cheat sheet at this point to keep track of everyone, who they are related to, what pantheon(s) they are a part of, and who has been reincarnated as who...so confusing. There also wasn't much development of the characters like there has been in the past, it was more of an intro to all the players. We did get some back story on Caleb finally which was nice and a little more on Jared, which as a Dark-hunter fan I'm happy to see.

Kenyon has always written her books such that you could pick each one up without having read the previous ones and be completely comfortable reading from that point forward. You might miss some of the series-long plotlines but you get by. This book was confusing for a long time fan who is up to speed on what was going on. If you haven't read the other books in the series start at the beginning.

In summary, I recommend this for fans of the series. The crew makes some progress in learning about how the Malachi destroys everything. The book seems to take place over about the span of a week so the ad The ending leaves you anxious for the next book as it leads in a new direction you didn't see coming.

I was a little disappointed in this book. The ending felt very abrupt.

The seventh installment in the Chronicles of Nick series. Nick just can't catch a break. All he wants is to get into a good college and spend time with his girlfriend; but unfortunately he's the Malachai - a demon destined to end the world. His friends seem to be missing and the Eye of Ananke is giving him visions of the further that don't make sense. All he can do is try to rescue his friends and figure out how not to end the world. Another day in the life of a young Cajun. Fans of this series will love this book as well.

This book was all over the place, plus it didn't help that I barely remembered the characters from the last books. I was thoroughly confused most of the time and the constant info-dumps made things worse. The only thing that saved this book was the epilogue, which made me somewhat interested to read the next book.

I really need like a flow chart for all the characters in this universe every time I read a new book. Kind of a slow beginning but picks up about halfway through. We actually got a clue as to wtf is going on in the epilogue though it also brings up more questions. I also think Sherri needs to explain better how all these beings fit into a hierarchy of power. She played up Acheron and Savitar too well for decades for me to easily swallow beings with the power to hide from them easily. It could be just me though.

Next installment of Nick's tale. Not entirely sure what the point was except info dumping stuff about the future. Even saving Zavid was basically a footnote in between info about the future. So not a whole lot going on.

This book didn't have a clear rising and falling action. I was disappointed. It was almost like a book between books.

4.5 stars
So much happened in the span of just a day in Invision! My head is spinning, and that ending. WOW. How in the world will Nick continue to fight?

So I know that this series recently came out with book 8 but I don’t think I will continue it any longer. It’s not because I didn’t like the series but I have a sinking feeling that this series is going to be one of those that will never end. This is because at the end of book 7, it starts to veer off on a completely different storyline than what I have been following since book 1.

Another reason why I’m going to put this series down is because I’m starting to get a bit lost from all of the characters that keep popping up. And it doesn’t help that a lot of them have weird-sounding names. And yet they are all very different so I’m honestly getting somewhat confused with everyone. I’m also not the only one because Nick, the MC in this series, also stated a few times that he was always a step behind and if the MC is confused then the reader, aka me, is also confused.

That being said, this series is still a very fun read. I really enjoyed reading about Nick and appreciated his sarcasm. Even though there were times when the other characters didn’t appreciate it as much, I always ended up laughing out loud because they were so amusing. The little sprinkles of Cajun mixed in was also a delight.

Out of all of the characters, I think I like Caleb and Xev the most. In particular, I really enjoy their squabbles. Caleb seems like the standoffish guy who doles out tough love whereas Xev is sensitive one and very affectionate. Their yin and yang is so entertaining to read about.

One more thing that I thought was kind of interesting was how everyone ended up being somewhat related to each other. In a way, it was a very confusing (i.e. see above) but it also made the storyline a lot more complex because now they also have to deal with a grandfather or a cousin or something instead of just another person/demon/god.

Overall, I did enjoy the books but as state earlier, I’m most likely not going to be picking up the rest of the series. But I definitely recommend it to those who enjoy paranormal books with a very sarcastic MC.

Nick Gautier is in trouble again The trouble hole keeps getting bigger and Nick keeps digging.  He's finding out more about what he potentially could do and finding that his powers come with responsibility and that responsibility could be complicated.

It's entertaining but the power levels seem to be a bit excessive.
