I love anything Tillie Walden writes.
I loved the storytelling and the art a lot in this novel. There were points where I felt the story went a little quick, for example when we got more backstory about Diamond. It almost felt rushed?
But besides that, I loved the novel and the points it touched on. I loved seeing Lou and Bea's friendship grow. I love them both so much.
The artwork was amazing. In this novel, the artwork alone tells you half the story. I appreciate how it aids the story along instead of just having the artwork to serve as a background. This story wouldn't have been complete without it.

Are You Listening? by Tillie Walden 4/5 🚗s
This is a gorgeous little comic, filled with a lot of heart and a touch of magic. I'm a sucker for road trip stories, and this one is no exception. The story centers around two characters, Bea (a teenager running away from home) and Lou (a young adult who recently lost her mother). In a string of events, they find themselves road tripping across West Texas, trying to find the home of a lost cat. Along the way, they learn about each other, themselves, and the magic that lives within the world around them.
By virtue of the medium, the story is short but powerful, with art that sells that expanse of the world around them, the horror of fear, and the ache of loneliness. It was a good story, and one whose art and characters I hope to return to soon.

I’ve come to love Walden’s placement of surrealist worlds built around characters having internal conflicts that play into their environment. I think her massages here were great and was a compelling read with enough mystery to keep me wondering
