Not for me, really forced my self to read.. gave me headache. Just some weird short stories without proper closure, and mostly sad ending. But felt real in that sense, that's how life is

Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

Fav stories: Cursed Bunny, Ruler of the Winds and Sands, and Reunion.

This is a book of short stories that are all odd and unique and range from horror to sci fi. It’s hard to rate a book of short stories because some of the stories were a 5 for me while others were a 2. The first two stories, The Head and The Embodiment were amazing, the next three stories were okay, and the final five didn’t really hold my interest. The Head is about a woman who begins seeing a head popping out of her toilet made of her own bodily waste and calling her “mother”. I liked The Head so much I would recommend checking out this book just to read that story.
dark emotional medium-paced

Picked this up on a whim from the library since one of my goals this year was to read a collection. The title story was eerie, but the first story really put me off the whole book. I wish it had been even the 2nd or 3rd story, just to give us a chance to get used to the writer's style before diving into the grotesque. Almost dnf'd the rest of the book after reading it.

The Head: 4.5/5
The Embodiment: 3.5/5
Cursed Bunny: 2/5
The Frozen Finger: 4/5
Snare: 5/5
Goodbye, My Love: 4.5/5
Scars: 4/5
Home Sweet Home: 2/5
Ruler of the Winds and Sands: 3/5
Reunion: 2/5

hmmm, i am not sure what i just read lol. I try reading some of the reviews to make sense of what I read but i still feel short. Bora Chung is an incredible writer, her stories really immerse you in it, you feel unsettled and disgusted with the narrators. The one that stuck out to me the most was The Head (the one in which a person grew from literal shit). I never heard of this author, but i learn this was nominated for the international 2022 booker prize award and was shock lol.

Also Anton Hur is an incredible translator which deserve it recognition! Sometimes, which to be fair is valid, reading books translated from asian languages comes off choppy but this translation was very smooth, no wonder it was nominated for 2023 National Book Award for translated literature

It is a very different from all the other books that I've read till now. It has collection of short stories and the end of every story will bound you think on what you have just read. It's 3.5 out of 5 for me.

I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator's voice reminds me of google's. But since her articulation was clear, I kept listening to it.

Cursed Bunny is a 10 short stories collection. Some are good, but some of the few weren't that engaging. The most enjoyable ones for me are The Head, The Embodiment, Cursed Bunny, and Home Sweet Homes. My least favorites are Scars and Ruler of the Winds and Sands.
