Not sure if it's the original writing style or the translation, but I didn't enjoy the prose at all. It felt emotionless and uninteresting. I found it nearly impossible to develop any attachments to the characters because the characterization was all telling the reader: "I saw this. I felt this. I thought this." Just boring.
The stories were nearly all very straightforward, too. You'd think with all the surreal weirdness that the messages would be deeper, but no. The themes are also extremely in your face, and they're all things like "Revenge/Greed/Misogyny/Child abuse is bad." And, frankly, those themes aren't explored in very interesting ways.
I feel like this collection was severely overhyped.

i definitely might pick this back up again later; the writing is very distinct and the stories are interesting. im just not feeling it at the moment.
