I'm sorry but I hated this book. If you say this is one of your favorites, you're lying. It is SO BORING. So many of the characters (Van Helsing, looking at you) just go off on these unnecessary talents that are like 3 pages long and don't fit in with anything. The beginning of the book was fine but like the last 100 pages or so just drag. After Lucy dies, the whole book just goes downhill.

Gripping at first, but padded towards the end in my view. Interesting to read the original though, as I only know the text through its existence in pop culture.

3.5 out of 5 stars

I'm sorry, I can't resist Dracula: Dead and Loving It gifs, Leslie Nielsen is just too funny.

Oh, right... Back to serious Dracula. I was so ready to love this horror classic, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't underwhelmed. I still love the story (which I may have just known too well at this point to fully appreciate the novel), the book is an interesting look at the people of the late 19th century, and some parts of it were actually great. However, it's never a good sign when your favorite part of the novel are its first 4 chapters.

Also, for a book titled Dracula, there really isn't THAT much Dracula in it. This actually has a lot to do with the epistolary format (which I'm still not 100% sold on, especially for this story), but I get what Bram Stoker was trying to do here. In the end, I thought it was a good novel, but I think I like the idea of it and the mythology it continues to inspire more than the actual book.

OK, but seriously, Leslie Nielsen though...
