Amari and the Night Brothers is just as magical as Amari Peters herself. A supernatural mystery involving a missing brother, an evil magician, and summer camp tryouts. And at the centre of it all, Amari Peters, a young Black girl from a rough neighbourhood that's about to shake the world. A fantastic middle-grade fantasy with explosive action and amazing worldbuilding that leaves me hungry for a sequel.

THIS WAS INCREDIBLE!!! Definitely one of my favourite reads of this year so far. It was so enjoyable that I hated putting it down. I was so obsessed with the world Alston created; he made me desperately want a job at the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs (specifically in the Department of Hidden Spaces)!! The pacing was impeccable. All the characters were fantastic, but I especially LOVED Amari as our main character and her narrative voice. I cannot wait to pick up the sequel.

Amari and the Night Brothers is a middle grade novel set in a magical world. Amari’s search for her missing brother leads her to the Department of Supernatural Affairs and a whole magical world she knew nothing about. A wonderful romp featuring Black girl power, mean girls, evil magicians and talking elevators with attitude. But there are also some serious social issues folded in as well including racism and economic deprivation.

A wonderful middle grade read! I love the world, characters - especially Amari, the plot twists and creativity put into this book.
I think that people that liked Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend or Percy Jackson will love this book <3

THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD! I adored all of the characters and would have wanted to go on these adventures with them when I was their age. Or can I just be an adult agent please!? That would be great. Anyways. This book. The writing was wonderful. The characters were absolutely fantastic and I feel fiercely protective of Amari and Elsie! The twists, the reveals, THE ENDING. I just loved it all and cannot form cohesive and critical points. Sorry. Just going to yell at everyone to read some more wholesome adventure middle grade.
