Re-reading these for the first time since probably middle school, I far preferred Land of Oz to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I actually found myself chuckling out loud at a few points. Jack Pumpkinhead is easily my favorite character in the series so far. But then I always find myself identifying with the neurotic, anxious characters.
Ranking them from favorite to least favorite (just because I love making lists) at this point in the series it’s —
1. Land of Oz
2. Wonderful Wizard of Oz

This one does not compare to the Wizard of Oz. I will continue the series, which has 14 books BTW. Frank had a dream to create the new age of fairytales; and while he only achieved that with one story, I want to honor him by reading all of them.
Charming sequel to L. Frank Baum's "Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and the 2nd of many Oz novels. The further adventures of Scarecrow, Tin Woodman and other friends they meet along the way. The kids loved it!

A little too simple and too bizarre for my tastes. And the characters are mostly annoying. But worth reading for historical purposes at the very least. And it still feels reads as fairly original, even some hundred years later. You'd think by now everything here would have been reused so many times that this would have felt to be the copy. Perhaps it just too weird to be copied too closely.
Simply Marvelous
A shade darker and more serious than the original novel this story really dives deep into the mysterious world that is the Marvelous Land of Oz!
