I have no idea how this book ended up in my house. Maybe a friend gave it to me when clearing out for a move, or maybe I picked it up in a charity shop among many others and promptly forgot. But from finding it on a shelf, I transferred it to my to-read pile. Then, it being the start of a new year and all, I decided to give it a go. 4/5

This book reminded me of many things I’d forgotten. I don’t take my phone to bed with me anymore. I haven’t been on social media for quite awhile, but I was still letting the internet dictate my mood part of the day. I am made in the image of the Creator, of Jesus Christ, and while this book inserts the universe for His role, the ideas, raw emotions, and human experience put down on paper ring true. Thank you for sharing your fear, your love, and your heart with us, Matt Haig. You are a treasure.
challenging reflective medium-paced

The more I read by this author the more I am comforted about my own self. I will share this book with others to hopefully offer them a little relief from all the overwhelming things in life right now, and I can’t wait to read “reasons to stay alive” when it arrives in my holds at the library.
hopeful inspiring lighthearted reflective relaxing fast-paced

Started reading this during a time where my anxiety was more prominent, and as a warning to some there are some parts of the book, especially at the start, that can trigger anxiety. It's probably best to read this when you're in a good place mentally, but there's lots of interesting points in here and food for thought. Would definitely recommend reading it, but take your time - it's not a book for reading in one sitting.
fast-paced

I do not have the same struggles or world view as the author but there are lots of nice relatable moments in this. Haig really delves into the simple things that make us happy or unhappy. It's not necessarily groundbreaking, but rings true and prompts some fruitful thoughts.
