This was mandatory for school. A book I hated with my WHOLE being. I hated this book so much and refused to read it and my mom had to read it out loud because that's how much I hated this book. However, it is one I think about all the time. It definitely taught me some lessons. 15 years later I STILL think about this damn book.

Well written but a bit too simplistic at some times. Filled with a lot of examples so very explicit.

solid 3/5 stars.
as i read this book, i kept asking myself if teenage me had read this, would they have believed and trusted the advice given? would they have put into practice the techniques? the me today thinks that i would not have. i was a stubborn teen who thought no one understood the things i was going through, so i doubt i would have taken this book seriously during that phase of my life.
although Covey does an excellent job at connecting to his target audience through anecdotes, i’m not sure that is enough to get teens to completely shift their entire lives.
regardless, as a 20 something year old now, i was able to find a good amount of value in these pages.

If you wanna relate to us at-risk and rebellious teens, try NOT to infantilize us? Maybe realize we're more than a one dimensional set of characteristics strung together? I could not give any less of a shit about your perfect life, dude. My life isn't sunshine-rainbows-mommy and daddy never fought. I do not CARE.

Very similar to his dad's book, but written for a younger audience. We enjoyed reading through this as a family.

This book was so boring. I've had it for four years and this is the time that it took me to finish it (and I only did it because I'm on a project to read all the books that I own).
The book is very preachy and doesn't give a lot of advice that isn1t common knowledge. Also, it is just so nice to read about how to overcome your problems in a book written by someone whose biggest problem was...being nervous to play football? I'm sorry, but Sean Covey just doesn't have enough life experiences to say something truly relevant. All of his advices were repetitive and shallow and the few interesting parts were usually coming from someone else. I mean, hey, that's great that you have an amazing life where even the book that you've published was handed down to you by your dad, but 10% of the world can relate to that. Stop acting like you know the reason to all problems and have real advice. If the book was a short article on a blog it would have been better, as I wouldn't have to have read so much bs.
