I was a bit sceptic at first when picking up the second installment in the massive Horus Heresy series, since I absolutely loved the first one, yet this second one has been written by a different author. (Something which will happen regularly throughout the series).

My fears were needless, since this book really kicks off the main plot line of the books. Sometimes, I did find it a bit quick-paced (even although it is a massive book), especially when it comes to the corruption of Horus himself (no spoilers there, we all know where this one is going, hence the title), but otherwise a very well written second episode, with all of the recurring characters and answers to questions we didn't really get answered in the first one.

I'm invested in the series now and it'll be interesting to see if they can keep this level of epic storytelling up all through the 60something books.

Started strong; first book was better. Hopeful for the next one in the series.

Good read, follows right where the last one left off. I think the Warhammer 40K articles go more in-depth than the actual books, but these are filled with less technical nuance and more on the over-arching themes of corruption, morality, and humanity - good, but I like a bit more nerdery as well.
