False Gods picks up a few months from where Horus Rising left off. While Horus Rising did a good job of laying down information about the main characters and their personalities, I found it to be a little too slow paced for my liking at times. False Gods picks up the tempo and does an excellent job of making Horus' gradual slide into treason seem believable and understandable.

Good, light read - interesting as back story for the 40K mythos, but interest is probably limited to fans only.

Still suprisingly fun read. Didnt know a thing about this universe (Warhammer 40k) but the exciting action and intriguing concepts (humanity vs religion, etc) are real neat to behold. Will definitely read the next book in the series.

6.5/10.

Not as fresh and enjoyable as Horus Rising, but an interesting enough continuation of the story of Horus and his legion. The penultimate events of the heresy are clearly being set up now and will presumably take full effect in the 3rd book. I wasn't as engaged this time around, and find Horus himself to be becoming rather unlikable, quite a contrast from the way he was depicted in Horus Rising. He has essentially been manipulated into his future course of action rather than coming to his decision in a clear-headed and honorable way, which I think would have been a lot better. The ending of the book, which quickly disposes of two interesting characters, also didn't sit well with me. The scope of the overarching story here and the development of Loken and Torgaddon as characters kept me engaged, however, and I am interested to see where everything ends up in the next book.

I read a couple of Warhammer books before, none if which I considered to be very good. The Horus Heresy is different. Horus Rising was already by far the best Warhammer book I ever read and this one is even better. Exciting and captivating. Can't wait to start the third one.

Felt like Horus definitely turned way to quick, I expected off the back of the first book for him to start the Heresy a few books in after seeing how tall he was and then how far he fell, but it seemed very sudden and shallow and uncharacteristic off the back of the one and a bit books it took.
Still a good read and a fun time and they made me care about characters I knew bad things were probably going to happen to, so I guess it is always about the journey and not the destination.
