This was good but unfortunately a bit underwhelming. After loving book 2 in this series, I was so excited to go back to book 1 where everything started. Hades and Persephone were both great characters. Initially, only Persephone was trans in this story but I found out that R.M. Virtues recently edited this to make them both trans, which I think added a really nice emotional connection between them. Wasn't expecting Hades to be my fave of the pairing but he was just so soft in this

This was a good book! It's a loose, queer retelling of Hades/Persephone set in a modern city where all the gods reign. The characters were fun, the romance/sex scenes well written
Spoiler(plus a Persephone/Hades/Hecate sex scene thrown in as well?? that was a surprise but I wasn't mad)
, and there was no third act break-up! I would definitely read another book in the series!

This book was awesome. Representative, a new take on a great trope, creative and heavy world-building - there is a lot going on in this book. Hades is not your typical Hades - he avoids the semi-feral antihero that tends to be part of this trope - but I still loved him! Persephone is a literal goddess - a trans and bisexual main character whose representation wasn't their entire personality. Also, I really want to be an acrobat now... so thanks for that. Be aware there is a lot of sexual content in this read - it is creative and intense - but it is also a slow burn of a book not action-packed and will not grab you necessarily. There is a lot of world-building and I can't wait to see what Virtues does with the rest of the pantheon and the world they have created!

The only reason it isn't 5 stars is because sometimes the language was a bit awkward and utilized the passive voice which could be distracting.

This was a bit disappointing for me unfortunately. While I enjoyed it and liked seeing the relationships develop there were some grammatical errors that bugged me (especially with things that should’ve been in past tense and weren’t), i wasn’t quite as invested as I would’ve liked to be, and I didn’t love what happened at around the 90% mark, it was a bit instalovey for my taste, as well as some other issues with it I’m forgetting now

I enjoyed seeing the trans representation in this retelling and liked the relationships that developed but overall this was a meh read for me unfortunately
