The Boy I Hate was a story of young love and taking chances. I quite enjoy a best friend's brother romance and this was a sweet story.
Sam and Tristan are road tripping across country for his sister's, Samantha's best friend's wedding.
Old wounds are opened and the truth finally comes out. While I enjoyed the premise of the book, it was written in 3rd person from a only Sam's POV so it was hard for me to connect with the characters and I felt as though we don't get a chance to really get to know Tristan and the things he was dealing with.
I loved the relationship had with her friend Renee, they were as close as two people can be, they shared everything, except what was happening with her brother.
There were a couple of parts that didn't quite make sense to me and I felt like Sam made her speech about her rather than the bride and groom.
It was a quick read, and overall it was an OK read

The Boy I Hate by Taylor Sullivan is a heartwarming, feel good book about looking beyond the obvious to see deeper within someone.

Samantha has grown up hating her best friends brother. She hates everything he is and everything he represents. But what she hates most of all is how people try to use her best friend to get closer to him. But one night changes all that. It changes the way she sees him, the way she thinks about him.
Fast forward six years and Sammie is tying to make a living, is close to settling down and it deeply unsatisfied with her life, although she would never admit it. When fate throws her and Tristan together once again she has to learn to reconcile the person he was, with the person she though he was and the person he now is. Something that is easier said than done.

This was a fantastic read. Even though it was told from Samantha's perspective I loved how deep the character of Tristan was and how that came across in the writing. I loved how the story jumped back and forward between the past and the present, feeding you small amounts at a time to pique your interest. Very engaging and dry enjoyable I would highly recommend this book.

The Boy I Hate is the first instalment in The Boy I Hate duet and falls into the category of New Adult contemporary romance. The narrative revolves around a young woman named Samantha who, years ago, had a brief, intense connection with her best friend’s brother, Tristan. Fast forward six years, and their paths cross again as they embark on a cross-country trip to attend her BFF's wedding. During this journey, the chemistry they once shared begins to reignite, leading to an exploration of unresolved feelings and personal growth.
After enjoying her previous work, Eight Steps to Alpha, the first book in the Nerdy by Nature series, my expectations for this book were quite high. The storyline does carry a certain predictability—following some familiar tropes of the romance genre.
Tristan emerges as a highly captivating character; he’s charming, relatable, and possesses layers that make him more than just a typical romantic interest. Readers will undoubtedly find themselves rooting for him. On the other hand, Samantha, the female lead, comes across as somewhat naïve and immature, embodying the complexities often found in New Adult narratives. Her character grapples with letting go of her past perceptions of Tristan, which had been heavily influenced by her best friend’s views during their high school years.
As the plot unfolds, the characters are faced with various secrets and emotional obstacles that threaten to unravel the bonds they are trying to mend. Overall, The Boy I Hate is an exploration of love, friendship, and the challenges of moving beyond one’s insecurities.

Unexpected chances

Sam has secretly always loved her friends brother, but thought he did not feel the same. An unexpected push together forces them to look into their relationship.

This sweet and angsty romance had me captivated from the very beginning.
Yes it was tropey and cliche but that didn’t stop me from loving it.
I just loved everything about this.

The Boy I Hate was an amazing story! I love the friendship between Samantha and Renee. Staying in relationships for the wrong reason and feeling responsible for everyone is always a tough place to be. Figuring out how to get out of it, even tougher. I laughed reading this book and I was tearing up by the end. The story was so well written and so descriptive that you felt like you were there. The only thing that could have made this better was to have Tristan's side of the story mixed in.
