The Boy I Hate

I found this book years ago on the Chapters app, but only recently found it again on kindle unlimited.
It was just as charming and sweet and easy to get invested in as it was when I played on the chapters app.

It took a while for me to decide between three stars and four. This was good. I liked a lot about it. It's just that the drama always rang a tiny bit false to me. For instance, one of the characters thinking a text had gone through leads to this huge blow up which she takes responsibility for even though it's a perfectly reasonable explanation as to what happened...and HE WAS STANDING RIGHT THERE when it did.

Sigh.

But overall good read.

Audible listen - good listening experience with narrator. The story was cute, fun, made miss road trips, and it has a nice ending

It's such a sweet story and I loved every page of it. :)

So... Samantha and Renee are best friends, since forever. They initially bonded over their hate for Renee's brother Tristan, that was really popular in high school. People got close to Renee, just to get closer to her brother.

One night, spent with Tristan, changed Samantha's mind. She started looking at him differently. And was really afraid to lose her friendship. So she ended up dating a guy, for like 7 years.

Then was about to be married and when her boyfriend cancels at the last minute, Tristan goes on road trip to New York with her. She made a sculpture as a wedding gift and has to drive it and Renee doesn't want to let Samantha drive alone.

On the trip Samantha realises what she want do to, with her life and love.

One of those stories, where you know, how it will end and you still love the ride to it. :)

It would make a really good movie. :)

This book was cute. I am happy to not find any big triggers for me. There was a lot of things i liked and a few i didn’t. Let’s start with what I liked, Tristian. I loved him. I wish i would have gotten his POV. This poor guy carried so much weight but laughed it off. Inside he was dying with pressures. He just wanted to feel lighter. Samantha gives him that. I didn’t feel the enemies thing really, I felt like there was some huge miscommunications that led them to be apart for 6 years, because they were young and not good at talking, but they both knew they wanted each other. I really liked them as a couple and how they grew to open to each other.

The Boy I Hate- Taylor Sullivan

4 out of 5 stars

The Boy I Hate by Taylor Sullivan is a great fun read, it’s one of those perfectly light reads where your able to dive right in! This story is sweet, funny and sensual. It’s written in past and present moments, normally I’m not the biggest fan of that but I found it really worked in this story. It provided the right amount of backstory without being boring or drawn out. This was my first book by Taylor and I was very pleased with it, it’s safe to say I will be reading more of her work in the future!

“Because somewhere in the darkest moments, beauty lives. Waiting for you to take hold of it and run.”

This story follows Samantha and Tristan in their cross-country adventure. I will admit I wasn’t the biggest fan of Samantha in the beginning, she was constantly throwing a pity party and I found her to be immature but I really liked the way her character developed throughout the story and I started connecting and relating to her. Tristan on the other hand I instantly liked. He was funny and confident, it was easy to tell that there was a lot more to him then what he chose to show the world and I loved how he was able to get Samantha to be honest and real about her life. This is a book I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for his or her next romance read!

I have been in a mood where all I want to read is paranormal romance books about wolves so I wasn’t sure how into this book I was going to get. However, I was surprised! This book took me out of my paranormal mood. This book was great! It was a quick read with a good story line. I absolutely love the secret of Samantha and Tristan.
Samantha … She has been with the same guy from highschool for 6 years! That is 6 long years when you can tell right from the beginning that she is not in love with him. She loves him, but not in an “I want to Marry you” sort if way. She is content with being with him because he wont hurt her and he will have a good job in the future. However, that is until she has to travel across the country with her best friends sexy brother Tristan. She feels things for him that she shouldn’t and it makes her realize more and more how much she doesn’t want to be with her boyfriend.
Tristan … OMG… he just might be my current book boyfriend! He is buff and sexy, but has a stand-off vibe because he needs to do everything for everyone. Tristan does not like to show anyone the real him so that he can protect himself from getting hurt. He was always the guy all the girls wanted something from, but none of them ever really wanted to love him. They might have loved his body, or his sex, but not him or his personality. This is what he was used to so when Samantha tries to get closer, he shuts her out multiple times.
Overall, this book was a great read. I would recommend you read this book and is perfect if you are looking for a secret romance read.

Sigh....swoon...and uncontrollable smiles

The Boy I Hate was definitely the best way to start my day. I love the tension, sexual chemistry, and the complete and utter mess. No, I don't love the mess but more the confrontation of everything that allows the mess to be cleaned up.

Miscommunication, lack of communication, and just sheer stubborn pride, keep this duo in a perpetual state of dislike. It's not even real dislike it's forced fake hatred. It's not wanting to like someone so you pretend not to. Until you can't pretend anymore.

Sexy, sweet, and an instant connection between them makes it twice as hard to fight. I think you mean The Boy I (Used to) Hate.

Aside from sleeping, I couldn't put this book down! It's the first book I've read from Taylor Sullivan and I'm starting to become a fan. The Boy I Hate was written beautifully and I loved the flow throughout the book. All of the characters were perfectly written!! I mean come on.

So, this book is about Samantha (aka Sammie) and Trevor and how they finallllly come to terms about loving each other. In the beginning, you are introduced to Sammie and her boyfriend Steven, ughh STEVEN! I'm so glad he's not in the picture because he just always put himself first and expected Sammie to follow (talk about a one-sided relationship----friendship?!?). Either way, I'm so happy that Sammie came to her senses and broke up with him twice. First by text, but since her phone died he didn't technically get it...and then again in person at her best friends wedding.

Speaking of her best friend, Renee, Trevor is her older brother. Through some flashbacks Renee didn't like it when girls were fake nice to her so that they could get close to her brother--which is why she like Sammie so much because she didn't do that. She was her only true friend. Unfortunately, one night Trevor kisses Sammie and that's when she starts to have a crush on him. However, he screws it up and Sammie never tells a soul about what happened.

Years later, Renee is getting married and Sammie is the maid of honor. So Sammie and Trevor end up driving from LA to NY for the wedding. During this trip, Sammie does break up with Steven (the first time) because he calls her to let her know that work basically comes first and he wont be at the wedding. Sammie at this point has had enough from this relationship and I don't even blame the girl. After this, she ends up crying and getting drunk and Trevor is there to help her through it. No he doesn't sleep with her, mostly because she's drunk, but because he doesn't want to screw this up...again.

While on their adventurous trip, their feelings for each other come out into the open. They of course start a secret-ish relationship because Sammie doesn't want to tell Renee. Her reason is because she doesn't want to take the attention away from her big day but I think it's really because she doesn't want to disappoint Renee for falling in love with her big brother. In the end, Renee actually welcomed their relationship because she was so happy that her big brother was finalllllly happy again. So really Sammie should've come forward to begin with, alllll those years ago, and her and Trevor would've lived happily ever after.

I love how these "enemies" became "frenemies" and then lovers <3
