Ahh what a cliffhanger to leave off on! TNAIM definitely sets things up for this book and I am so happy I stuck with it. I love the characters and I’m really beginning to love this story. We learn more about both Nox and Amaris in this book while also learning about the politics between everything going on.
I really do love the way Piper writes her stories and I can’t wait for the 3rd book to get delivered in a couple of days so I can continue this beautiful story.

4.5/5. Compared to the first book this one was bounds better. While some of the storyline was slightly predictable the moments in which the secrets came to light were absolutely perfect. I still think there is a lot of unnecessary filler to be found in these novels, this one had a lot more action going on than the last. The timing of certain choices feel so reminiscent of real life, despite being a fantasy novel. I’m already grabbing the next book off of my shelf because wow, this was captivating.
Oh I loved this second book. So good really pushes the story forward and picks up the pace overall. I am however a bit peeved that Nox and Amaris keep getting dragged apart. I suppose that's the point but I don't have to like it!
No spoilers but I really like how this is shaping up, I'll dig into the novella next and yeah part 3 can not wait.
Pock this up if you like bi-sexual fantasy and a kingdom with a lost heir and magic that is still not fully for.ed within the world building yet!

I wonder if half the reviews on this book are because of the drama surrounding the author and what has come across as obsessed fan base….
That being said. I am enjoying the story. The writing definitely improves just as the characters do. The first book seemed a little chaotic and unorganized compared to this one. The storyline has more direction and the 2 FMCs grow as adults. Yes the 1st book was their childhood and what courses put them on the path for the story to actually start.
I can’t say this is my favorite high fantasy series. But it is far from terrible or even mediocre. But there is still something missing… but not so much that I won’t continue with the 3rd book. Yeah, it absolutely gives off Witcher vibes, and I’m here for it. I also love the polyamory vibes and the way the author writes about some characters being LGBTQ+. She does this in a beautiful and passionate way.

I really like this series. The characters, the general story, the world. I hate the too frequent and aggravating near misses. If characters could literally just communicate with eachother, damn. There's 2 more books in the series which just makes me fear more agitation. I would like to be a little less angry/annoyed while reading.
3.5-. I tore through the first in this series. I found it instantly engaging and fast paced. I knew when that one ended (no spoilers), we would have a little bit of a momentum back pedal in some ways with this one. Just that occurred and I struggled quite a bit. While the characters and some of their individual growth kept me going, it’s really the promise of the third book’s premise that made me finish. Fingers crossed we are back to the races with book three.
Thoroughly enjoyed this even though I accidentally read the series out of order. Oops. Eagerly waiting for the first installment at the library.
