Beyond phenomenal. This book was an incisive critique of the current state of Britain’s distance, divided, and - as a result - often callous political landscape, and the inescapable role class plays in every aspect of both Westminster politics and our every day lives. As a pretty radical left winger myself, it’s been a while since I read a book that actually proposed new ideas and looked at well-trodden issues (in left wing circles at least) from a refreshing new angle. I particularly enjoyed the unique lens the author approached these issues from, as he is not an English middle-class Labour voter who has no proximity to the issues, but indeed the opposite in many ways, and this perspective is sorely needed in UK left wing politics, I believe. I learned a lot from this book, and I enjoyed the listening experience greatly. Darren McGarvey is a new name to me, but not one I’ll forget in a hurry!
