Ruth Ware

3.64 AVERAGE

I don't think I've read a Ruth Ware book that I didn't like! Her books are very atmospheric, including this one. It's set in a fancy French chalet during an avalanche/blizzard, and it feels very suffocating at times. I sort of had things figured out about half way through the book, but it was still an awesome fun read!

I liked the setting, and I liked the tech workers aspect (as a person who lives with a tech worker). But I didn't care about any of the people besides Erin and didn't think it was a great book.

Terrifying! I read the second half before going to bed and that was a mistake. My first Ruth Ware book and won’t be my last.

This was a fun fast read, pulled from the list of books “available now” at the library. A good thriller for a snowy night.

as i rate this i am a little conflicted as i do love the story and the way it ended i did feel like this was a little slow at a lot of parts and though it may have been necessary it took me a while to read it because of that.

in the end it was really good and i liked or related to a lot of characters i will never go skiing if i can help it.

A few things...
1. This is a fast read, and the beginning of the novel isn't nearly as slow as I feared after reading The Woman in Cabin 10. Still, there are just as many characters haphazardly thrown into the text early on as there are in The Woman in Cabin 10.
2. There are seamless transitions between the two narrators. The use of two narrators was fantastic for this book. Sometimes the time overlaps and we see the same event through both women's eyes, other times the transitions are continuous and the story pushes forward. Love that.
3. The end is neat and tidy. You don't have to wonder what happens next, which is a positive thing for me.
4. I feel like too much is revealed too soon, and it's easy to figure out what's going on long before it's actually revealed. This takes a lot of the excitement out of the book.
5. Maybe this is my fault for picking out a book that takes place at a ski resort when I've never been skiing in my life, but I felt like I needed a glossary for all of the niche skiing terms that were used.
