This was an interesting read. Dava, matriarch of her family, announces her death before she dies in order to see the world’s reaction to the news. One part of the book is set in the present where she is surrounded by her 4 children and 4 grandchildren. The other part is her back story with her children and husband. The back part also includes a story about her other child who was given up for adoption. The house on Beatrix Island is a character unto itself, especially because there is a winter storm.
I'd be lying if I said I've never felt sad that I won't hear what people say about me at my funeral, and I'm not even a billionaire. I think this is my favorite read of 2021.

Nice story about a family and it’s many complications and show of love that is not always affection. I loved the last 5 min of the audiobook the most

For a 360ish page book this felt long. I didn’t feel any connection to the characters and I also didn’t really like the POV of Sandi, who wasn’t even related but engaged to one of the siblings
It’s not that it was bad, to me it was just lacking and I wanted more. I wanted to feel more given the subject matter

This book was incredibly well done and it was clear the author took care to tie up loose ends but for some reason the end of this book still felt incomplete to me. Often, when I finish a book like this I feel satisfied but I finished this book with a sense of unease, like I was waiting for something more.
Every so often, I crave a good family drama story. DAVA SHASTRI'S LAST DAY had been "calling" to me from my book cart since I bought it in December. I'm so glad I finally read it!!
My thoughts:
-a juicy family drama that flips between past & present
-a unique and honestly refreshing premise of the book! unlike anything I've ever read
-loved learning about Dava's past and the women empowerment in this book
-I definitely did find myself wanting just a little more on all of the kids and I had some questions about her husband but that didn't deter my overall thoughts
If you in need of a good family drama or just want a different read from your normal genres that's totally bingeable, I'd pick this one up!
