The book is well written. I loved the diverse characters. The story itself dragged, which is why I didn’t rate this book higher. I just wanted the story to move along.
Moderate: Alcoholism, Cancer, Death of parent
DNF @20% atleast for now
I'm always looking for my next Evelyn Hugo fix , make that Indian and I'm doubly excited.
My first sign should have been me stalling to read a mere 10% throughout the whole month on and off.
But the thing is I really wanted to like it so much that I was pushing through it. But in reality everytime I was to start it I was like "not this again!"
And tbh , the concept is very good. The problem I think is the execution. I couldn't care less for any of them. From what I've read I didn't really get to witness the white portion of Dava's morally grey sphere. And just calling her a philanthropist every 2 seconds won't cut it , if I don't get to see it.
Even now I feel like maybe if I get my hands on an audiobook I can skim through this one , but at this point what's the point in that.
And I just feel sad because I really wanted to love this book so much. Maybe if the stars align I might give this another chance , but the chances are really slim.

This story felt like a compliment sandwich. It started and ended well, but I really didn’t care for the middle. But of course, the middle is important to how the story ends!
The premise of the book? Promising! A wealthy woman with a terminal illness controlling every aspect of her life and even the beginnings of her afterlife. But if you try and control the narrative too much, you may overcompensate and secrets are uncovered.
Second things second, this story can be digested as a “rich people problems” kind of story. Most of the characters are snobby and pretty unlikable, yet they think they’re doing things with their family members in mind. Sound complicated? That’s because it is. In a way, this gave me Evelyn Hugo vibes of being selfish but trying to be a good person as well.
At the end of the day, it was really hard for me to overlook the unlikable characters. I love family dramas, but this was too much of a chore. The backstories that were interwoven throughout the middle were all over the place and I felt lost on the road.
I’ve seen so many good reviews, so I’m curious as to what I missed!

A story about a woman with terminal illness who wants to end her life on her own terms. She brings her family together and then a. Organised her ‘I’m dead’ press release to go out before she died so she could see what people say about her. And b. Doesn’t tell her kids beforehand about her illness or her plans.
What I found most wild about this story isafter her kids find out that she has doctor’s on hand to provide assisted dying the next day, she spends a lot of time alone. Even if you didn’t love your parent or truly connect, wouldn’t you want to spend as much time asking them questions as you can? The best part was when Dava sits down with her grandkids and has a true honest conversation with them for what is seemingly the first time ever.
What I found most wild about this story is

Dava Shastri’s Last Day was perfect. That’s it. It was perfect, impeccable, complicated, heartwarming, heartbreaking, and genuinely one of the best books I have read in a long time. I’m honestly shocked that this is Ramisetti’s debut novel - her writing and storytelling skills are INCREDIBLE.
Dave Shastri’s Last Day was beautifully written, covering topics of family, grief, loss, life, expectations and everything in between in an incredibly real and raw manner. Ramisetti’s character and situational descriptions are were so in depth, the reader truly felt like they were there in the moment and I could honestly picture each and every person like a movie. This book had me deep in my feels from beginning to end.
Not to compare too much, but this book is perfect for any fans of Taylor Jenkins Reid. Ramisetti’s story and diverse cast of incredibly multidimensional characters truly emulated that uniquely engrossing feeling that I have only really experienced from TJR.
I wish I had a more eloquent way to describe Dava Shastri’s Last Day but I am truly dumbfounded right now and can’t find the words to explain how this story and the truly insightful life lessons made me feel. There was so much heart and wisdom in this story that can not be expressed in a short review. I can’t remember the last time I fell this deeply in love with a book.
